How much does it run at your dealer? I don't have a garage and it's November in Ohio, putting this out of DIY territory for me right now.

****, I bet it is way more then $100. It cost $100 just to have honda look at your car, now imagine them having to take off your valve cover and what not and adjusting each valve, I say more toward several hundred $$$.

I called a few days ago actually. Cheapest was $90, Most expensive was $125 including the valve cover gasket. This was for the g/f's Accord if it matters. I'm just going to do it myself, but I don't feel like doing the timing belt ~400$

I guess if it's $90-100, that's not too unreasonable considering it's pretty involved. The last thing I need is to get the valve cover off and have it start raining (or snowing). Thanks for the info!

I don't know if you need a valve adjustment, but mine is fine and I'm close to 30k miles. Honda says every 15k tho for adjustment.

I'm at 38K, and the car sounds more like a sewing machine all the time. Based on other stuff I've read about valve adjustments, this sounds like a symptom of needing one. The car's running fine, just sounds a little off.

Where in any manual for honda does it say routinely adjust your valves, it says adjust only when noisy, if you are getting yours serviced that often, you are wasting money and someone is lying to you

I've never had the service. I prolly would even do it myself, since you just need to buy the feeler tool. I have official maintenance booklets from the dealer and it says valve adjustment every 15k. Someone said if the engine is noisy, it's already too late for adjustment. I know a few people who waited and the adjustment didn't help the noise at all.

Other than noise, what problems would incorrectly adjusted valves cause? That's really my main concern, if it sounds like a sewing machine forever I guess it's not the end of the world.

SMX is on a distinguished road
Aren't the lifters hydraulic??? If so, they should need adjusting very often if at all. If you start hearing noises (really obvious noises), it's may be a collapsed lifter.

a valve adjustment should cost 1.5 hours of labor, $$$ depends on the shops labor rate. My dealer's lbr rate is $98/hr. I'm in MN so maybe. May be diferen't elswhere.

if the valves are too tight it could cause map sensor #s to be too high.
