did deadlifts again today. i was able to do 3 x 10 with 65lbs! i feel it more in my legs right now than my back. is that normal? it's mainly my hams and glutes. last week, i was on the verge of getting cramps in my upper, outer hams while i doing them. today wasn't that bad. i don't want to push it yet since it's a new exercise for me.

yeah its normal to feel it in your legs. once you do them for a little while, youll really start to climb in weight fast. i started at 105 and am at 205 within a month

id say depending on if you use your legs, i personally try not to, its great for total legs and lower back, as well as arms, people say. its almost a whole body workout. I see it in traps, arms, lats, and lower back and a whole lot in grip strength too.

friday

smith bench press
135 x 12
275 x 8
275 x 6
275 x 6

palms in smith bench
205 x 8
215 x 8
225 x 6

incline dumbell press
70 x 3 x 8

flat dumbell fly
65 x 3 x 10

seated dumbell curl
45 x 3 x 8

preacher curl
120 x 8
125 x 8
140 x 6 (put 10s on and not 5s like I was supposed to)

8 min sprint.

how can you avoid using your legs? you have to bend at the knees and squat some to do them correctly, right?

you can, but i just lean over. i think its a romanian deadlift if you use your legs and keep your back straight. im just so tall with long arms that i can get the bar to the floor without bending my legs, i keep them slightly bent throughout the whole motion.

You need to use your legs with a real dead lift. You push off the ground using your feet then pull with your back. The first part of the motion will be upper back and legs. the second part will be mid back and lower back.

YouTube - Deadlift 455 x 15

Straight leg deadlifts your legs should be slightly bent because you don't want to tear your hamstrings or ligaments behind your knee.

Yeah I know...I'm too lazy right now to fix it. It worked fine until we switched over to civicforums

Straight legs work hamstrings and lower back. Should be done on leg day.

Full deads work a little legs and all of back, plus some traps. Should be done on back day.

I have learned to really love full deadlifts. They I want to develop my mid back more and they really help. I like them so much better than squats at least in terms of full body lifts. I would highly suggest learning good form and doing them. My grip is limiting me at the moment...time for some wraps or something.
