I know there is an official thread but I wanted to ask because I am also training too for something...and I think this would get more attention too
starters
Weight: 210 pounds
Height: 6'
Build: Jolly around the midsection
I have been trying to get into shape over the last little while and to do this I have taken two things into mind...the most important...Exercise and Nutrition...obviously...
I have been running/jogging 2km(1.2miles) everyday for the past week and have noticed some loss already which is great...I am eating quite healthy and staying away from junk...I am training to run 5km for charity for "run for the cure" (for cancer)...and am serious about atleast being able to jog that distance without stopping to walk...I am wondering if there is anything I can improve on to help make the weight loss easier and to aid in my endurance (slowly over time - the run isn't untill october)...
This is my pretty much my daily menu
Breakfast
All Bran Bar or Multi Grain Cheerios
Lunch
Organic Salad Mix with some chicken or pure sausage(cut up)
Dinner
Chicken, Steak meal with mixed veggis
or
Pasta (because I am italian)
I am now starting to add a handful of almonds between each meal..
I drink nothing but water about 2 litres a day
and then roughly about 2 hours after dinner i run my 2 km
Go bed and repeat....
Now what can i do to improve this....keep in mind I refuse to eat fruit..I hate it...but I have no problems with veggies....I am trying to cut down on the amount of pasta I eat, but not completly cut it out because I realize it can give me some energy for my after dinner run....
The other problem is that every friday we go out for lunch at work..and the place we go to is not best..we usually have 2 beers....now is there a problem with me eating a pound of wings(or a burger or a ceasar wrap) and having 2 coors lights (substituted for stella artois) as long as I run that night?
If I were you I would completely eliminate any fatty foods (wings, cesar wraps/salads, burgers, mcdonalds, etc...) and lower you carb intake (especially beer) even if you're running at night and eating better foods throughout the day.
If you're going to consume carbs, try eating whole wheat pasta, whole wheat bread, brown rice, etc...
Get rid of condiments. I know you love ketchup and mustard.... but one of the worst things to consume are condiments... they're just high in sugar.
Also, instead of eating 3 meals a day, try eating 6 meals per day. Speed up that metabolism...
Drink more water if you can... and make sure it's cold water. The more water you drink the better... and no you won't get bloated from it. Your body will naturally equalize itself. Cold water can aid in burning fat.
EDIT: As you run more, and 2km's feels easier to do, increase the distance you run.
the problem is that i since i am little bigger some of it has gone to my dong and denny's tiny little asian bumbum hole is way to small for me...
and i can't get rid of my condiments..i already got rid of the bun...i need that ketchup and mustard...and if it is only 2 light beers a week is that okay?
That's true... when I said eliminate all fatty foods I meant the crappy stuff like McDonalds, Burger King, Taco Bell, etc...
But to still eat steaks, chicken breasts, fish, etc... those still have the necessary fats.
Peasey, if you're going to drink beer and use condiments, eat less of it. Don't ask for extra kethup and mustard... and drink 1 beer instead of 2. Why the hell are you even drinking beer at lunch time anyways... ? Be more health consious... You want to loose the weight but you're still drinking and eating those things that are keeping you overweight.
You gotta have the will power to do this right or it will never happen.
You should see my friggen diet... it's so bland... Susie never eats with me because it's the same things with no taste.
Try running in the morning or before dinner.
Running gets the body's system working, hence your metabolism increases and you start burning fat just from running.
The running or exercise has your body working, so if you eat after the workout your body's metabolism will work faster, which will burn your pasta alot easier.
Try not to eat too late either.
oh and no beers. Keep in mind that although you are making an effort and drinking a light beer, it still contains alot of sodium. You wanna watch the amount of sodium you intake because that also contributes to a belly pouch.

Hey... be a man. Doooooo the right fing.
During the whole week my diet is pretty bland...it is just on fridays..I am cutting back i guess on fridays too...i switched to light beer and instead of a cheeseburger and fries I will have something with less grease..Ie Turkey sandwhich....it really hasn't been that hard to conquer my eating habits because I am enjoying this...and hopefully it will help me change my food eating lifestyle...I am sure I will be motivated until october it is just after october's run that i worry about...maybe I will have so much less stomach that I will be impressed and able to notice a difference...I have already noticed a difference.

In the morning it is too difficult for me...a) i am worst person for waking up for work....i work at 830 every morning and wake up at exactly 8:12..3 minutes to get dressed and drive 15 to work (i shower the night before) b) Because the sun is up already and where is live is extremly humid i would rather run when there is no sun
and I prefer to run after dinner because I like to run late at night, and I feel that i am burning off everything I ate that day, I recognize that the body burns after a run and eating after is okay because it will be burned off...but it is a mental thing...that if i run at the end of the day I burn off some of the food I ate during the day and go to bed and let my body burn the rest while i am sleeping...
and yeah I know about the sodium thing, but hopefully two beers won't hurt it's just that i go out for lunch with my boss every friday and i don't want to be like "no hold off the coors, i'll just have some water"....maybe i will drink just one this week...

You know what I'd do differently than eating pasta for dinner and "burning it off" after with a run? I'd eat like a few crackers, run, and THEN eat dinner. I always find that I'm not hungry at all after I run. This will help curb your appetite. Plus your metabolism will still be high for the night.
Oh and like I said before, add like 0.25--> 0.50 miles per day seriously a little bit a day and you won't feel it. Each day pick a new landmark past your previous route.... like the next stoplight or the next neighborhood. You'll be so excited about your progress you'll never want to back down on the distance, knowing what you achieved the day before. Pretty soon you'll be hitting that 5km mark easy.
Lastly... think in miles. The exchange rate is great. haha.
I may eat after i run once the humidity starts to go away...but because I run at around 10 at night i don't want to eat after I run....I think once september comes around I will probably do that becuase at night I will be doing homework/studying...and then it will be cooler as well...humidity is a bitch to run in and i always end up weasing if i run in it...but if i eat after i run should i rule out pasta?
and once i start to run the full 2km i will start to do what you are suggesting...i think i am about a week or two away from running the whole 2km...once that happens I will make a new route...

You may be seeing a difference now which is great because you've never exercised like this before but if you keep eating unhealthy foods (kethup, mustard, beer, mayonase, fast food, etc...) you're going to get to a level and platoe.
Once you see your results after october i'm sure you'll keep on exercising.... it's very motivating

Ok... listen to yourself. "it is a mental thing...that if i run at the end of the day I burn off some of the food I ate during the day and go to bed and let my body burn the rest while i am sleeping..."
So that's what YOU think... big deal. I think if I can fly... it's a mental thing.. doesn't make it true though!!!!!
Take the advice and try running before you eat dinner...
You came here looking for advice but when we give it to you, you make up excuses. CHANGE DAMN IT
but it's too hot out..*tip toes and flails arms like a pansy"...i will try to run then...
i am changing though...i will soon be free running like you..infact yesterday i pulled off my first manoever...i was running on the sidewalk, right? and i jumped from the sidewalk off the curb and onto the road...it felt so free-ing..now i know why it is so big in france...
