Whats up dude, Im not a fitness junky but I can give you a brief intro to what can help the process. I'm 5'10 @ 175 but I have a mini donut around my waist that I need to lose by May for a Lake Las Vegas trip.
But anyways, I dunno what your eating habits are like but defenitely need to cut down on fastfood intake. No one can go cold turkey, I started by only having fastfood 2 or 3 days out of the week, no fries, no supersizing or anything then eventually minimizing junk food intake. That goes for soda, chips....all that sh*t. Keep your eyes on Nutrition Facts and know how much Fat and Calories you're eating. Snack on fruit. I mix Strawberries with honey for my sweet tooth.
As for workouts, when I was 185 I needed to lose some weight around the waist, I started out with 30 sit-ups & pushups a day, 100 jumping jacks. 1 hour of walking/jogging, started out walking to get my heart rate up. I just did these so my body can get used to the activity. Then after getting used to the activity I add more sets and reps. This worked for me and I went down a size in a month, looked alot better but I did this everyday and I skipped out on a beer/alcohol too. <------that was HARD!
You can check out sites like Mens Health, Mens Fitness, AskMen to find out what kind of workouts you can do, nutrition info, if you search you'll find alot of things that will help you. Goodluck with your weightloss. Im sure if this is the wrong way to go, they'll say so.
I just eat fast food once a week and thats because I have no time for anything else. But yes I have seen a slight weight drop and my pants fit just a little better, this in just over a week.
BTW I know what you mean about the alcohol.

Your diet needs to be evaluated and particular attention paid to carbs and overall daily calories.
First step is to take careful note of everything you eat in a day, and the quantity. Then the diet is altered to eliminate the fat producing foods(particularly simple carbs such as white bread, white potatoes, sugar, white pasta, white rice, commercial boxed breakfast cereals). Replace those with brown rice, oatmeal, lentils, sweet potato, whole wheat pasta.
Frequent smaller meals are helpful. Drink up to a gallon of water per day. It is important to recognize that fats to not make you fat; carbs make you fat. Avoid carbs other than veggies after 6 PM.
Cardio, at least 30 minutes per day, at least 4 times per week.
Join a gym. You need some weightlifting. The gym will have cardio machines to choose from. Ellipticals or treadmill are both good.
If you will be serious, then serious results will follow.

yeh i lost about 20 lbs in 2 months just dieting and exercising 3-5 times a week. i started at 208 lbs and im 5'7. I am about 188-189 lbs. Eating right makes a big difference. Cut all the fast foods and soda. My goal is to be around 165-175 and then bulk up
its possible to loose 2 sizes in 6 weeks. easier said than done though
work out 1 hour 3 times a week. and i bet you don't have time like me. so park far away, don't eat fast food. no soda, no candy bars, and try to have sex at least 3 times a week for like an hour. they have something called the "all american sex diet" go do that. 3 times a day for 1 hour. you will drop weight like crazy
make sure to eat breakfast... it gets your metabolism kicking... and as muscle said, try to eat more smaller meals a day; if you only eat like two meals, your body will start to conserve the fat as opposed to burn it in order to keep energy.
