Yesterday my g.f asked me if I wanted to join her for her 4pm Bikram Yoga class. I'd been wanting to go because all I do is cardio and I really don't like gyms too much so this seemed like a good idea.
Bikram Yoga is done in a room with the temperature set to 105F degrees and about 40-50% humidity. You're sweatin after only a minute of just laying on the mat in the corpse position..lol. This is physically, a very demanding discipline and I can't wait to go back...hehe
Not sure if anyone has ever done this before but I thought I would more or less give a quick review of my first class.
Start off with breathing excercises which actually do help prepare you for what's to come in the following 1.5 hours.
You then get into some pretty crazy balancing excercises that really test your patience and obviously, your balance.
I found the floor excercises very rewarding. The instructor was pretty good and from what I gather, alot of this is geared toward spine stretching.
When it was over I definately felt worked over and exausted. I'm told the tired feeling passes once you've done a few classes though..lol.
This morning....EVERYTHING hurts..lol. Well not everything but a little of all of me is feeling tender. My back got quite the workout and my legs and arms are tender in various places. This may change though...I clearly didn't do all the postures properly as it was only my first time so I'm sure to feel more once I get better at this.
Anyhow...I know this isn't for everyone but I wanted to try it. I like the challenge of it and the benefits are ENORMOUS, especially if you're not a gym fanatic and still want to tone your body, develop muscle and increase your lung capacity...it's awsome. It also gives my g.f and I something more to do together and now I finally understand why she's such a write-off when she comes back from her classes...lol. Last night I got the backrub..

Did they atleast have the decency to return your testicles when you left the studio????
har har har. Jk.
lol...try it before you crack the testicle jokes...that shit is harder than any day at the gym I've ever experienced.
You have to remember that this is not the 'all is peaceful' style of yoga...it's extrememly challenging and designed to be an agressive full body workout. You wind up working muscles you never knew you had..lol.
Went to my 2nd class last night and because it was an evening class (8pm) there were alot more people and damn it was hot in there...wow!
I definately did better this week with regards to balance and working the proper muscles in the various 26 postures. I'm hurtin this morning for sure and it'll likely get worse before tomorrow morning but I feel incredible!
my girl just had her first session a couple days ago and mentioned that i should start going with her when i get back to FL... i was kinda skeptic, but it sounds pretty cool now... thanks for the info

I went last week and we had this new instructor named Fionna. Man, she was like some kind of Marine Corp Drill Instructor...lol. That was without a doubt, the toughest class I've been in yet. The temperature was high and the humidity was through the roof...lol.
