Thinking about Relocating to NJ...

I got a job offer to relocate to New Jersey from a District Manager of NJ, PA Area and he basically said that I would have to move to NJ to take the job. I don't really know anything about your state and was hoping NJ locals could fill me in about living there. Currently I live in Tampa, FL and have lived in this area my whole life so I don't know anything about living in Northern States. I have traveled West, and even Way North (Canada) but never the Northeast. I'm 23, and single so I'll be able to make a drastic change like this and it is kind of exciting thinking about moving to a whole new place and all. I have some friends who are from NJ Area and now live in Tampa because they wanted to change. I'll ask them why they moved down here and they just say they wanted change, lol. So what can I expect if I take this job and move up there?

Thanks and maybe I'll be seeing some of you around

Pete

i have lived all over the country and i think new jersey is the best place to live. we are close to everything here...new york city, philadelphia, atlantic city, mountains, beaches, parks, etc.
i hope you will be getting a raise because NJ is definately an expensive place to live! good luck...

If you pretend that cars are moving cones, then the roads become your personal autocross course.

I live my life 1 cone at a time, for those 70 seconds or less, I'm free

I don't live in Jersey.....but I can tell you this :

look up the cost of living to Jersey vs. Tampa. if you aren't getting paid enough to support yourself in the new environment, it's not worth it. Yeah, it would be cool to see/live in a new state but you gotta look out for yourself. Plus, the winters suck ASSSSS. I'm from the south and moving back next week. I hate snow and cold temps. Plus, everything is so fricken expensive. And people suck, too.

Thanks for the great advice everyone. I live on my own in Tampa, and I am completely aware of the increase in living expenses if I move. But what I was wondering the most is what kind of people live up there and what is there to do? I mean did you read in my post that I'm moving up there by myself, so one of my main goals is to meet the females.

there are a lot of good people on this site that live in NJ - Eddie, Steph, Diana, and all the guys in this forum. IF you are close to NYC then there is a ton to do. However, you are looking at a massive increase in living expenses, which you already know. Without money, no girls are going to want to stay with you

Housing- let me give u my advice.. i lived in south florida for 10 yrs and now i live up here in the philly suburbs and living is very high. the housing costs are expensive just like in the south. The house down there was 200k and was like 5 bedrooms, new house, on a lake and what not (now its worth like 500k due to inflation) and a house like that would cost like mid 300's to near 400 if u want a single home. townhomes go for 250-300k. Hope u have a house set up or somewhere to stay.

Economicly- im sure ur aware of winters and what not. expect to pay tolls a lot especially if u plan on leaving the state of nj. theres no way out but by boat. Go shopping in delaware, tax free state. NJ does have cheap gas tho compared to pa and de from what i've seen and yes u have to sit in ur car as an attendant pumps ur gas for you cuz they dont let u pump ur own gas in that state. NJ insurance for cars is outrageous, at least thats what i've heard, so be prepared to pay up ur a$$.

Sports- NJ Devils and thats all they have lol. Thats why u come to philly and we got all the good teams lol.

Entertainment- Your close to philly cuz thats where a lot of stuffs at, your near d.c. only an hour and a half away. ny is close too depending on where u live, 2 hrs from philly.

the civic aint gonna cut it up here. most people who are getting the girls are driving range rovers, bentleys, and the likes. people in the nj, philly, nyc area, pretty much the whole northeast have lots of money and lots of tradition. the NE is build on tradition and old money. meet girls at ur work or going to the bars. lots of people will be stuck up here tho and many people like going on vacation, most preferably the OC, ocean city, md or cape may, nj. you need to have a regular house and then a beach house and ull be set. thats where the girls are at during vacation and holidays.

Hmmm...more great advice thanks. The job I currently have is not bad, I make a living, but I'm not wealthy. If I made the move I pretty much would be making a little more than what I am getting now based on what they offered me. And from what you guys have told me I pretty much would be worse off than what I am now. I definately was not ready to make the move but was merely considering it. I just want to make a move somewhere other than Florida because it's getting old.
