Uhm... actually, they were true muslims. They were the truest of the true, muslims. They were fundamentalists. That is the very core of the Koran... indeed the founder of Islam, Mohammad, was a raider and a warmonger himself. Luckily for us in the US, however, that very very few Muslims are fundamentalists, and most are more peaceful.

Saddam was not trained by America. He was armed by America, and I can understand why... to fight the radicals. But Bush needed a scapegoat, so there you go.

He IS the founder of Islam. He is as much the founder of Islam as Joseph Smith is the founder of the Church of Jesus Christ of Later-Day Saints, L. Ron Hubbard is the founder of Scientology, Henry VIII is the founder of the Anglican Church, and Lao Tze founded Taoism.

I know Muslims don't consider him a founder of a religion because he's a prophet of a pre-existing religion. That is actually a flawed way of thinking, tho. The moment he separated from the established religion, in even the smallest sense, he branched off a new version and, thus, founded a new religion.

Islam is obviously different from Judaism and Christianity. Just as these religions share the belief in the same God, they also share many differences that set them apart. Those differences insisted upon by Muhammad created a new religion. So, he is the founder of Islam.
