Iraq wil be a constant grind. We may scale back but we will be there for the next 100 years. Gas prices are tied to demand from China and India. SO that wont go down unless social engineering kicks in. We will not know what to do with out the decider making his decisions.

The "WAR" in Iraq will end but the occupation will continue. We will be there for a while. However, look for oil production to peak in the next year or two and, after that, look out world because, unless we can find a way to use alternative fuels, the world is going to be a messy and expensive place to live.
Gas prices are only going to go up. It's widely speculated that Saudi Arabia has peaked as far as production goes (hence they say they will increase production but don't) so if they are running out of oil we're severely screwed. Prices will rise as demand rises and supply shrinks. If we don't find a way to become energy independent (like Brazil) we're going to be in for a rough couple of decades.
I am sure that one day it will become "yours" God help us all if that happens!! Don't forget about the massive amounts of Diamonds in our Territories up north. Considered to be one of the best finds in the world. And there are still more to be found.

If Brazil can do this why can’t the US? The technology is available, GM, Ford, and Toyota are the best sellers in Brazil, the cars offered there are compatible with Gasoline, ethanol and alcohol.

The only problem with going in this direction is it will piss off oil companies. Don't these oil companies have close ties awith 1st world gov'ts? Also the gov'ts get a nice piece of the oil industry in form of taxes.
This all should have been done long ago and I am sure there was technology like this long ago, but I bet you in the past the oil companies would make people shut up, buy their ideas and wipe environmently friendly ideas under the rug. I don't know what will happen but you gotta think that the oil companies are feeling the pressure. You would think that they would be the ones to introduce these alternative fuels and start the process. I don't get it but I would liek to know WTF is going on in their heads.

Yes, Brazil uses ethanol derived from sugar canes. Did you guys know that it takes as much energy to produce a gallon of corn ethanol as that gallon of corn ethanol will produce? It might be cleaner than a petroleum-based problem but it's not efficient. Sugar cane ethanol, on the other hand, is 6x more efficient than corn ethanol but there is a much better corn lobby in the U.S. than there is sugar cane lobby.
Bottom line, the U.S. should use a better source to obtain ethanol than corn.

The government can get the same amount in taxes from the sale of ethanol. All they have to do is adjust the tax tables so that they receive as much revenue from those sales as they currently get from gas.
