that is funny, the are protesting and they are not even informed! they probably thought they could get the day off and say they had a part in it.
it is a good thing though that persons invovled with illegal immigrants and illegals themselves will become felons. indeed we cannot house them all in our prisons, partly b/c they are already over populated as is but we inadvertantly be paying for them to be here. prison should not be an option for the illegal immigrant...just straight deportation!!
a felony is an extreme. illegal immigrants will face the same penalty as attempted murderers and unless they're being tried for a felony other than being an illegal immigrant, they don't deserve such a severe conviction. the same people that will vote this into law are going to be the same people that made minor 3rd strike offenders go to life in prison with no possibility of parole.
oh i understand the severity of a felony. they may not deserve it but IMO i think it is a good tool to deture them from coming over here and if convicted, it will teach them a lesson and a good one at that. and just for arguments sake, why is it too severe? they are commiting an illegal act, we the tax payers have to pay the court costs so we might as well get something out of it and by that i mean a conviction. like i said though, just for arguments sake!
the senate DID NOT passed the legislation on illegal immigrants being felons.
the house PASSED a immigration reform bill which talk about immigrats being felons.
right now, the senate is debating about different bills offered by different senators.
one of em is the bill called chairman's mark which is passed to the full senate after lot's of amendments made during the session of judiciary committee. Others also bill offered by the majority leader Bill Frist....McCane-Kennedy, etc
so, by today, march 28...they are still debating about this matter on the senate floor..
in fact, most senators disagreed by the fact that the house bill's vision to make all those 11 millions people as felons......Where the hell are you going to put all of em? are you ready if all of em go berserk??
the Senate Judiciary Committee passed the immigration reform bill. this bill was passed with a 12-6 vote.
"In fact, many of the provisions that passed are in great jeopardy since the legislation was approved without a majority of Republicans' support." Foxnews.com
"The Senate is scheduled to start debating immigration reform on Tuesday afternoon" Foxnews.com
"White House spokesman Scott McClellan said Monday that it's too early to talk about a final piece of legislation and whether Bush will veto a bill that doesn't include a guest worker program. Saying there's a long way to go on the legislative process, McClellan added that it's important the White House and Congress work together to come up with a comprehensive solution to a broken immigration system." Foxnews.com
I personally think that making them felons instantly is a bad thing. Making anyone crossing the border from now on, that's okay.
I believe that if we start charging businesses $1000 per worker each time they are caught, the source that drives them to come over will dry up and they'll stop hoarding.
I believe that a temporary guest worker permit isn't a bad thing.
I believe anyone that even BRINGS UP THE ISSUE of California once being part of Mexico, should be instantly shot. I believe that ANYONE that even says "Aztlan" should be thrown in prison for the rest of his or her natural life.
okay, so making everyone already here a felon may be a little harsh, maybe if they gave them a grace period to get their green cards or work visas or whatever they need to stay here would be fine. but, after that period is up, they are out of luck!
i too think a guest permit is okay but at the same time, what is to stop them from leaving once the permit expires?
I heard someone say that if we had no illegal immigrants, the price of produce would skyrocket because you have to pay people more to get the job done. I say, invest in new technologies and put the overcrowded prison population to WORK!!
wow, i am still amazed that the protests are going on!
you know, i really hope that they have no influence on the senate voting. i mean, what is the world coming to if people who are not even here leagally have a say in how we run our country and the laws that we make!!
i have heard nothing as to when it will be passed. they are still debating and the summit meeting dealing with the Guest Worker Program may hinder the debates even more. also, deciding what to do with the 11 million illegals already here are all hot topics. IMO, it may take at least a month, if not longer. i am just happy to see that Bush is so strong for this bill!!!
