Increased violence in Iraq

With the increased violence in Iraq over the past two days has the potential to spell disaster and possiably an internal Civil War between the Sunnis and Shiites. What looks like a insurgent attack on a Mosgue is not the best thing for the country at the moment.

Views? Comments? What should the Iraqi goverment do? What should the American goverment do?

P.S. Please no dumb comments about Pres. Bush... Thx

Its our fault for dividing their government in to religous groups rather than letting the most experienced guys win the elections. We have divided Kurds, Sunnis and Shiites rather than uniting Iraqis.

The US needs to back off.

These people don't care about peace with one another.
They have been fighting this way for hundreds of years overr their racial and religious beliefs.

The super racial and religious freaks of that area are the problem and that adds to the socail unrest.
Let them fix their own problems or kill eachother off.

Those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it. I heard someone scoff that once.

People of different creeds and races cannot be lumped into a single government and expected to work out their differences (unless they are under siege of a dictator).

Look at Yugoslavia or Czheckoslovakia. The best thing to do would be to divide the country but someone *ahem, Bush, ahem* decided that was a bad idea.

The whole country is controversial. Jihad or fighting terrorism, it is all killing. The fact that we are so in depth is a major problem, that im not sure how it is going to be resolved. The conflict has been going on for many years, and will continue to grow.

Not true. Shiites and Sunnis have not been fighting for hundreds of years in this way. In the past they have fought no more than protestants and Catholics in Europe. Yes it has happened but it was never a constant like it is today.

That is because the political power of the country had not been up for grabs. Now that one sees the opportunity to "control" the other, there is infighting.

Well the only positive that can be spun about the next couple of years is that Bush will finally be able to retard a genocide. So no more bringing up Sudan!

I personally don't know what the US should do.

But it would have been nice if Iraq could be divided into three seperate countries... Sunni Iraq, Shite Iraq, and Kurdistan.

Turkey was the reason this wasn't possible... they don't want Kurds (especially in eastern Turkey) to have their own lands, then the terrorism that exists there would only get worse. :-/

I wish that when George was planning the Iraq war, and he made a slide show for the generals to see his plans. The 4th stage which covered post war occupation was more than 1 slide that said something like "to be determined"

These new tensions could also be a blessing for the US if you think about. The "War in Iraq/Terrorism" becomes the "Iraq Civil War", no longer making it the US' war, but Iraqi peoples.

I'm sure the news headlines shortly will read something like "New Iraq Government to Stop Civil Unrest", while the US quietly backs out and moves to Iran.
