It should be raised, though it won't do a whole lot of good, but some good is better than no good which is what the current minimum wage is.

Really, I would be ok with the current minimum wage if raises given at minimum wage jobs were given more frequently and where a little greater. I remember when I worked at Burger King in HS, I started at $5.15, and we would get raises every six months and it would only be between $.05 -$.15, which is fvcking bullshit. I think that they should make laws to force companies to give raises every 3-4 months based on performance, time spent at the company, and overall usefullness of your position. Of course some people are slackers and a lot of holes would need to be filled in exactly how the law would be written, but I think that would be the best course of action. Not to mention, companies would get better results and performance from their employees since they will be more motivated to get the best raises possible.

You make a good point. I've been arguing for the raising of MW but I'm just playing devil's advocate. In a free-market society, companies should be left to manage their own pay scales, starting with the bottom. The economy will actually drive the wages up or down, depending on demand. That's how it should be.

However, we've grown accustomed to having a MW and, because of how lazy as we are as a society, we would have an economic collapse if we allowed the market to dictate it's own price.

ex2k3 I dont think it would be possible to enforce a law dictating employers to give raises on a set date, for a set amount for certain qualifications. Adam Smiths capitalism is based around the free market system as silverdevil was saying. Our economy strives off of the freedom that only capitalism can provide.
Maybe Im not making sense because its been a LONG day...but...you get what Im saying...
Im very liberal, and I think companies should be able to do what they want, when they want...because it works time and time again!
