yep thats right. a country against Israel but still being sold ports in the USA. wtf. i can't believe this. some company from Dubai bought the ports and are suppoed to "protect" them. this is SHIT! were screwed!!! discuss.
Well........as much as I would freak out about possible terrorist-sympathizing nations controlling our major eastern ports, it doesn't seem to be that dangerous of a proposition.
Not sure if you know this, but the company that has been running our ports prior to this is a British company. I didn't read your link b/c I have read up on it so I'm not sure if it made mention of this ordeal behind the scenes. Basically, the British co. was bought out by the UAE co. and they're just taking over.
I heard something about it but I haven't researched it yet.
Do we know if the company that is doing the guarding has ties to known terrorists? I mean, just because they are from the Middle East doesn't mean that they instantly hate us, right? Isn't that the argument the Bush admin makes, that almost everyone over there loves us?
I also heard that several federal agencies had done background investigations on the company and had cleared it. I don't know which ones, as I've only heard if from Headline News and you know how in-depth their reporting is.

He's saying that not all people from the Middle East are of one mind. Just because other countries in the region have a beef with us doesn't mean that the UAE does.
The fact is that UAE has a rather lackluster record of working against terrorists....
I wouldn't want them to guarding our ports. Even if 100% of their employees were good guys, you think that terrorists wouldn't instantly be clamouring to get a job there?
Ok, I did do some research and found that they will actually be the lowest level of security in a three-tier system. Ultimate security still falls on the U.S. Coast Guard and federal agents of the US Customs and Border Protection.
Zap, this might seem weird to you, but I'm actually with Bush on this one. I see no problem with it. Of course, he's really adamant about the UAE company being allowed and, after some research, I found that it's cronyism at work (he's helping out some buddies). Other than for that reason, I have no problem with the sale.

Well, when a leftist source (like NPR) actually runs a story that doesn't bash Bush, there might be something there.
Listen to it and don't be prejudice against NPR because most stories are left-leaning. You might learn something.
I listen/read many sources in one day: NPR, CNN, Fox News, BBC, Reuters, Google News, The New York Times, and the Washington Post. I'm yet to see a story suggesting that this is a bad idea.
