Post Food for Thought Feb. 9

With all that is going on in the Middle East and people complaining about American's in general, it got me to thinking. How many people of voting age, according to the last Census actually voted and of those who voted, what percentage voted for who and so on. Remember these numbers are NOT exact, but I, am sure they are as close as you can get to a point.

According to the 2000 Census projections there is close to 201,576 million people in the United States of voting age.

Of that amount, ONLY 60% of the voting population voted. Of that percentage, 30% or 62,040,606 voted for President Bush, 29% or 59,028,109 voted for Senator Kerry and .2% or 411,304 voted for Ralph Nader. So in saying that, according to what I said, 69.2% of the American population could give a rats *** about Bush or his policies.

Yet, when American's are perceived, we are perceived through the goof ball running the country. I think we are need to do a better job in the future about who we stick in the head office and how we are perceived in the world. Unfortunately, we are too dependent upon other countries these days to do without. You can just imagine how the world has changed in the last 20, 30 or 40 years. How we as Americans can no longer just be worried about ourselves, or what the neighbors daughter wore to church last Sunday. I am sure I am like most others when reading, or hearing about the rioting going on in other countries because of the cartoon pictures that were printed in the newspapers. What is with the killing? What is the big deal? Where is the rioting, killings and abductions in the states? Why are the American Muslims not up in arms with this? Is it because they view it as not that big of an issue? Is it because they are subject to daily propaganda of nationalistic or extremist leaders? Maybe the rest of the world should take a step back, disconnect for a minute and take a look at what is actually going on and who is really listening to what is being said!

I voted against the terrorist bush, but to no avail. A tyrant with such power can control anything he wants. Not to say the elections were rigged, but they were rigged. I will smile when I throw my next vote away. For me it will be a great day indeed when the evil bush's are gone.

The question is does this bring hope? Personaly, I would like to this so. With former presidents like Clinton still trying to contribute to the well being of the country, it could be that maybe there are more good presidents to come.

Maybe not. Our President would have been to war rather than join the gaurd to get out of combat only to become the president and send fathers and grandfathers that are in the gaurd to combat in a sand box. Our VP wouldnt of had 5 deferments from Vietnam. Our Secretary of Defens wouldnt of had deferments from Korea. Maybe instead of trying to win it with a bunch of technology rather than just win the damn thing. Maybe they wouldnt do warrantless wiretaps because they wouldnt fear unnefective terrorists to the point where they would do unconstitutional acts. Maybe they wouldnt pass anti-torture legislation then use "signing statements" to write "this does not count if the president wants people tortured."

Your idealism is commendable, but you have entirely too much faith in politicians. You're going to get a rude awakening if you keep up your blind trust like you are, and demonizing the Bush administration for what every politicians has done and is doing.

he was stating that if bush wasn't so busy easedropping on the rest of us he could actually finish the war already. but hes a politician.
anyway, tragedy- it bring alot of hope. why? cause when bush gets out of office, he won't be the president anymore. i think his best use will be after his presidency. why? cause he can do what he does now. nothing. talk, talk talktalktalktalktalktalk.
zap- your right. politics cannot be trusted. at all. so i agree with you on that
but you have to understand the difference between "demonizing" and the cold hard truth.
truth- patriot act is still going on, even though its not supposed to be cause it keeps getting "extended" for any reason the president farts for.
as we speak, this iraqi "war" should not even be, cause the "war" was over way the hell back in the day.
troops in iraq will never leave. ever. why? cause of iran. egypt.

what i believe- as soon as we get a new president, the troop count will drop in half if not more.
bush should have been impeached cause he has done worse than lie about a blowjob in the whitehouse

on voting= i didn't vote cause i felt like i was not represented in the way i wanted to be by either candidate. so i guess you can say i can't complain cause i didn't vote but the truth is that gore should have been president anyway.

Gore lost fair and square. Accept it already and move on, you can't be of any use to the present if you are stuck 6 years in the past.

What is so wrong with the patriot act? Are you against making it easier to take out terrorists? Apparently you are, because the Patriot act doesn't target you at all. I would think someone that was jewish, that knew somewhat what Israel had to do just to simply stay alive, would support the war against true terrorists. Iraq aside, I'm talking about real islamic activists who want to blow stuff up here in the US. You want to make it easier for them to accomplish that? Or do you just hate it because the press tells you to? You know that they ammended it before passing it, right?

To the best of my knowledge, the patriot act was not read before it was signed.

i have accepted the gore thing, florida is just still iffy for me ya know? its one of those "you never really know" things.
look man, we have talked about this before in pms and in other threads, im against the patriot act cause its unconstitutional.
Israel, is different from the US. heres why
1. they do racial profiling- cause its needed
2. they assassinate people cause its needed
3. they don't take prisoners- cause its needed
all these things that america won't do. and its all better than wire tapping me talking to my mom who live on an american army base. get my point? some things are worth doing. patriot act is NOT. its blatanly unconstitutional, and i would think someone who loves guns would be all for the constitution.
btw i support the 3 things i stated that Israel does cause IT WORKS

You support them when Israel does them, but not the US? Even though we are being targetted by the same psycho islamic radicals?

You were never being wiretapped, BTW. Not unless you got a phonecall from Bin Laden lately. Oh wait, they can't even wiretap those people now, they gotta wait 3 months...!

This is America not Israel. This war will never end. I dont want to die as much as the next guy. I also dont want to live in a police state. If the risk of a terrorist killing me is 1/10000 that of a drunk driver killing me I dont want my country being turned in to Israel. If you want Israel go there. They can get warrants. They are not even trying. Plus every terrorist plot we catch has been lucky or not even us. Shoe bomber was caught while lighting the thing. lax bomber was caught by a border control agent not wire taps. Library tower plot was stopped by a different country all together. Now we tortured 2 people to death one of whom is blatently innocent. Move to Jew land if you want to live in a innefective police state for the rest of your life and fight a never ending war.

I'm a republican, and with that said I'll post this:

Whenever there is a war on an "idea," we will never win.

Examples:
War on Poverty? Not even close.
War on Drugs? They've increased
War on Terror? Not anytime soon, there will always be terror.

Then we look at education. Have you seen that we have increased education FUNCDING by like 500 billion dollars? And guess what, test scores are still the same throughout the country. DC increased it's funding to 10,000 dollars per child, making it the highest funded school system in the US, and guess what, they have the lowest recoreded scores.

No matter who the presiden't is, Republican or Democrat, things will stay the same, until someone wakes up and realizes that changes need to be made. Tax's need to be banished, because it was not the orignal idea of our forefathers to have Income Tax. Tax should only be applied to things that you buy, so that you have a choice to pay the tax. People will then say but then our deficit will go up, well guess what, the government needs to stop spending as much on useless things then. Over the years, when the average tax rates for everything were DECREASED, the government made more money than when thy rates were increased. This is because people see that things are cheaper to buy and they are making more money, so they inturn go and spend more money, help the economy, and eventually replenish the governments defecit breaches.
