In response to political cartoons published in Denmark and France to "test" free speech, Muslims in Pakistan, Afghanistan, Indonesia, Gaza take to the streets in violent objection that actually came out in September of last year.
My opinion, these "Extremists" are using this propaganda now as an excuse for viloence and chaos. Who would of ever guessed Islam "Extremists" had feelings and were so sensitive...

And to think. They never protested this much when their fellow muslims killed children in schools or shot kids in the back, or beheaded women. You'd think they would be protesting the more extreme sects of their religion doing outright evil things, rather that a cartoon....

It is disrespectful. We're talking about a group of people who believe the Westerners are leading a war against their people and their religion. The cartoons were in very bad taste. Not only that, they were originally printed in October of last year and were re-printed (as an "in your face" gesture) this month. Has anyone here seen the cartoons? Here they are:
Here is another picture I found, making fun of Jesus (this isn't part of the cartoons ran by Danish newspapers, but I thought it was funny):
This is a situation where both sides are wrong. The newspaper should've never disrespected Islam the way they did (it is blasphemous to depict the Prohet Muhammad in any way) and the Muslims should understand that, in other places in the world, people have free speach rights. Two wrongs don't make a right but, if anyone is to blame, it's the newspaper for having such poor taste and picking such a horrible time to print such a thing.

The radical of one century is the conservative of the next. The radical invents the views. When he has worn them out the conservative adopts them.

How does this make you feel? I like how they hide their faces. Cowards....or wait, maybe it's REALLY cold there?
Silverdevil: did David Hume really misspell "ridiculous"?
“the man of mere theory is in the practical sphere an useless and dangerous pedant.”
They cover their faces in solidarity; not because it's "cold" or because they are afraid of being known, but because that is how the militias do it in that part of the world. At least that's what I was told by a friend of mine who is Palestinian.
Oh, and the Hume quote, I copy-pasted from a Google search and never really noticed it was misspelled. Good catch, +1

I agree, but Id just like to add that freedom of speech and expression are limited... Freedoms are within reason and are not supposed to infringe on other people's freedoms & rights...
I dont support the violence at all. But the newspapers who published this kind of crap should be disciplined because this is causing enough problems and has the ability to lead to even more war and deaths. Something no one in their right mind wants...

Anyway just wondering if anyone has any advice for me as im going to court to fight it. The ticket was issued by a municipal police force in Ontario.

Well, freedom of speach is limited, yes, but should not be limited by any religion. What they did was totally legal, even if it was in terrible taste and an inmense disrespect to some people. I don't condone it, not at all, but I still have to defend their right to post those cartoons.
People should also learn to relax. It's not the government's fault the newspaper printed what they did. There is no reason to burn embassies.

IMHO it's totally the extremists' fault. They probably just want more reasons to act as they please and create more fear and violence. Japanese people didn't burn any embassies when children in korea and china drew pictures far worse than these "terrible and blasphemous" cartoons.
As silverdevil said, people should learn to relax. As I see it, the french and danish just wanted to make a reaction (I guess they never expected it to be that much though). It even says in one of the drawings "the journalists are a bunch of reactionary provocateurs" and in another "relax, it is just a sketch made by a dane"
Free speech should never be limited, why can people mock jesus but not muhammad? Should someone select what are the banned topics of the season as to not inadvertedly insult a group of potentially dangerous people?
IMO the cartoonists more than mocking muslims, were mocking their inability to take something as a joke. And in the process they probably proved it. It is funny that we are supposedly living in a globalized community but yet the cultural aspects are so complicated that something a person sees as a joke, others take it as the worst insult ever.

I agree... +rep.

You know, I have really been weighing whether or not to talk about this subject. But, I must agree with Silver to a point here. The paper should have known better than to print the paper (cartoon), that is just plain stupidity, yet personally, I think the Muslim community takes it a little to far. Killing people and burning buildings all b/c some POS that worked for a paper was dumb enough to print it. Be-for-real! Lets all just take up arms and kill each other, for no reason what so ever, seeing as how the world has not a thing better to do than cry over spilt milk.

Did you hear that Iran is planning on running some cartoons making fun of the Holocaust? They think that will "piss off" the Jew-lovers in the West or something. Personally, I could give a damn about what you decide to make fun of. Last I heard, sticks and stones break bones but words (and cartoons) don't hurt you.

Yea I had heard about that. Its idiocy feeding idiocy. (is that even a word?)

the way i see it, it's like sleeping with your bro's ex girlfriend. you know you're not supposed to do it out of respect, but there is really nothing wrong with it. if you really want to, then go ahead and do it but be prepared for what's gonna happen. did that make sense?
freedom of speech should not be limited by religion but still, it's almost to the same degree as yelling "fire" in a full auditorium.
