yeah i guess i kind of agree.
bush=leader
leader=lightning rod
thats really basically the truth.
i agree. it can't be stopped but it can be slowed down
and it really makes me mad when they started putting up commercials that say, if you buy drugs you support terrorism. thats like borderline propaganda

ill make this quick cause its 4 in the morning.
media covers mostly presidential stuff. they don't tell you what these people believe in. they just run the commercials they get paid for. but anyways, congress don't care about what people think. they say what they need to to get into office and then do what they want or what they think is best for the people.
if congressman got paid 30k a year instead of a few hundred this place would be alot better.

Agreed. Congress doesn't care about what people think. Why? Because $$$ wins elections, elections mean power, power means money. Once someone is able to sit, their place (and power, and money) is pratically guaranteed for life. Unless you do something stupid like Gary Condit, who had his hot intern murdered.

The power is out of the hands of the people, and is now in the hands of a select few who would do anything to make sure they keep it. The 2 party system works *GREAT* for the Dems and Reps, they make sure they get to keep the power and keep control. And of course they can vote pay raises practically at will.

There are a few rich good guys. A FEW. However if you dont vote for new ones your just as much to blame. If you dont read what the guys who cant afford tv ad's guys who cant afford 100,000 signs in every front yard have to say or go to their town hall meetings then you are only helping the problem. I am not saying go vote for democrats or republicans just dont go vote for who someone tells you is good without looking at their voting history. Politics can only attract a retard. After the age of 20 you should realize the cost of power isnt worth the power. Clinton looked young in 1992 he looked 90 in 2000.

Virtually every politician is rich. If they weren't rich before they got into politics, certainly after. Sure, their salaries are only 6-figure, but they get a whole slew of write-offs, plus every single time they make a speech they get a generous check from the organization holding the dinner they are speaking at. Then the lobbyists... haven't you ever seen that movie with Eddie Murphy where he becomes a congressman? It was like an 80's movie. If he voted yes on one bill, he got $20k from x-company (big oil, say), if he voted no on that issue, he got $15k from y-company (greenpeace, say). Government is literally in the pockets of big businesses and organizations.

Sure, if you are president then you will come out of office looking WAY more wrecked than when you went into office. But that's the president. Being a senator, congressman, or whatever else, you don't have the weight of the world on your shoulders, and you aren't in the spotlight nearly as much. You don't have nearly as much stress.

The current media-business-political alliance stays in power because it makes a huge deal out of the 2-party system. "If you don't vote for us, the other party will take over and ruin everything you believe in!!!". That's the battlecry of each party. And most all voters are herded into one of two camps. Nothing innovative will ever happen, nothing will ever come of talks, no serious progress will ever be made. Politicians know that if they make a big deal out of issues, pay for media coverage, then the vast majority of americans are idiots and will fall for the ploy.

It's rare for any grassroots campaigns to get started. Even kicking the idiot Gray David (Ca Governor) out of office, even though it was a grassroots campaign, was financed by another rich politician. And that was kicking out a blatant corrupt and HORRIBLE governor. What happens when it's time to kick out someone borderline? Nothing.

Yup Dan Lungren raised 1,072,802 in 2004 and spent 832,226. Thats just to be a congressman in the u.s. house of representatives. He pulls about as much weight in sacramento as anyone. So if it cost a man who can get a news crew at his door for free since b4 i can remember 800k to win. I know that a 3rd party doesnt have a shot. That also doesnt include the money the california republican party spent in indirect advertisements. Or the hours tom sullivan(one of rush limbaughs stand ins)/paul and phil let him ramble on and on for free. Now he has 240k on hand and can raise a lot more this time around since he wont be competing with other republicans. So by the time i am 45 it will cost around 100brazillion dollars to be a congress man.

They don't get paid a "few hundred" thousand. US Federal Officials' Salaries
They get paid close to 200,000 but most get paid around $160,000. Granted they get free stuff and some extra here and there, but when it is all said and done they don't make much more than any other well-trained and qualified person in an important position.

For instance, compare that to your average doctor
Phsyician Salaries (AKA my salary in 4 more years :-))

Just thought I'd throw that out there. Seems that a lot of people think that congressman and supreme court judges and the like make way more than they actually do. And, with all those headaches and pressures, deciding which choice is the best choice, which one refelects the views of your constituents, etc - it is OKAY that these guys make decent money.

If you seriously think they only money they make is from their salary, you are seriously mistaken. They make money from every little dinner speech they make, every time they speak at a college or for any other function. Then they have money from lobbyists, who literally pay them no matter what choice they make. On top of that, they have power, political power. The businesses that they are in good with give them perks and tips, heads up and business information to where both can mutually profit. What the heck do you think all the extremist liberals are in a fuss about over Haliburton and that crap for? Because they think that politicians are getting paid for chooseing Haliburton. If we started drilling in Anwar (a good idea), do you think that the politicians won't care which companies get first dibs? Of course they will choose their friends and the companies that pay them the most to get the prime drilling spots.

Washington is ruled by money. And just because the Senators and Congressmen get paid less than 200g's annually, that doesn't mean that that is the only money they make. In fact, you have to be fairly rich and powerful to get to the position in the first place, so you already have money working for you by the time you get there.
