Will we still be the Country of choice and still be Canada if we continue to make the changes forced on us by the people from other countries that came to live in Canada because it is the Country of Choice?????
Think about it!
All we have to say is, when will they do something about MY RIGHTS?
I celebrate Christmas..........but because it isn't celebrated by everyone........we can no longer say Merry Christmas. Now it has to be Season's Greetings
It's not Chritmas vacation, it's Winter Break. Isn't it amazing how this winter break ALWAYS occurs over the Christmas holiday?
We've gone so far the other way, bent over backwards not to offend anyone, that I am now being offended. But it seems that no one has a problem with that
THIS SAYS IT ALL!
IMMIGRANTS,
NOT Canadians
MUST ADAPT
I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, we have experienced a surge of patriotism by the majority of Canadians. However....the dust from the attacks had barely settled when the "politically correct!" crowd began complaining about the possibility that our patriotism was offending others.
I am not against immigration, nor do I hold a grudge against anyone who is seeking a better life by coming to Canada. Our population is almost entirely made up of descendants of immigrants. However, there are a few things that those who have recently come to our country, and apparentlly some born here, need to understand. This idea of Canada being a multicultural community has served only to dilute our sovereignty and our national identity. As Canadians....we have our own culture, our own society, our own language andour own lifestyle. This culture has been developed over centuries of struggles, trials, and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom.
We speak ENGLISH/FRENCH, not Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. therefore, if you wish to become part of oursociety, learn the language!
"We Stand On Guard For Thee" is our national motto. This is not some Christian, right wing, political slogan..We adopted this motto because Christian men and women...on Christian principles....founded this nation...and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriateto display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home because it is part of our culture. We are happy with out culture and have no desire to change, and we really don't care how you did things where you came from. This is OUR COUNTRY our land, and our lifestyle. But once you are done complaining...whining...and griping...about our flag...our pledge....our national motto...or our way of life...I highly encourage you to take advantage of one other Great Canadian Freedom...
THE RIGHT TO LEAVE
For the record I didn't write this but I back it 100%
this country was started by protestants, not catholics. and its called the melting pot for a reason. it don't bother me when someone says merry christmas. it just bugs me when they expect me to say something back. or say thanx. or something.
its not about being politically correct. its about being sensitive to others culture
WOW!!!
Why does everyone always say "get the f*ck out!"? It's not always possible to leave, even if you want to. Most people that complain weren't necessarily born in another country and moved here, some are natural born citizens that just want the same privileges that Christians get. They don't get days off for their special religious holidays so they either have to work or use a sick day. Doesn't seem right to me.
The United States was not founded on Christianity, it was founded mostly on deism. Do some research. Check it HERE. It was very popular during the enlightment, which was during the 18th century (note: same century the US was founded.) Deist believe in a god, but it shares many views with atheism. Most of the founding fathers didn't trust religious leaders so they wanted to completely separate church and state. Check the list of early president's religious affiliations HERE.
Money didn't always say "IN GOD WE TRUST" or was always a national motto (notice that's all in caps like our money has it. That's so it doesn't give any special treatment to the word God.) Coins didn't start having IN GOD WE TRUST until the 1860s, paper money until much later, and it didn't become a national motto until 1956. "Under God" wasn't added to the pledge of allegiance until 1954. All this God stuff didn't really start until the Cold War because of us wanting to distinguish ourselves from the atheistic USSR. Now I guess that the Cold War is over people are starting to question how far God has been put into the government. God, in the sense of Judeo-Christian-Islamic, wasn't the God the founding fathers were talking about. They used the word God to symbolize the creator of humans, whatever/whoever that may be to you.
I was raised protestant (I say that because I went from Baptist, to Methodists, Unitarian, and many others.) until around high school when I adopted more of a Deist point of view. I still celebrate Christmas put as a secular holiday. It is a fun holiday, that allows people to share and give. So I still say Merry Christmas to people, but only if I know for sure they are Christian or celebrate Christmas. If I don't know what you celebrate I don't say anything, unless they say something to me that gives away what they celebrate first.
People that say they get offended that they can't say Merry Christmas, why do you get offended? Doesn't make much sense to me. People of other religions have had to put up with it for years and I would be a little tired of my religion getting downplayed by Christmas every year, especially since Christmas really has lost touch with it's religious connotation. Most people these days are just trying to make their bitch kids happy so they don't have to hear shit from them until they get bored with their gifts.
Anyway, just want to state some FACTS since this thread is getting filled with shit. If you celebrate Christmas "Merry Christmas", if you're Jewish "Happy Hanukkah", Ramadan has been over for over a month, so to Muslims and anyone else "Happy Holidays."
1) good points!
2) we have said that we are not offended, per se, just irritated that non-christians who are assumed to be christian are said Merry Christmas to. It is more of an annoyance and a little bit of disrespect. That's all. It isn't a big deal.

Thank you. They may not have been your words but I think that you just summed up my sentiment better than I ever could. I tend to ramble and not get the point across but, there it is, my thoughts, as stated by another. Only, from an American point of view. Again, Thank you.
Oh, and , get this. I work with mostly Africans and middle easterns. Now when I say Africans, I'm not talking about american blacks(they're not African by the way.) Anyway, all day long I heard Merry Christmas from ALL of them. Now granted, some of the Africans were Christians, I was still surprised. Even the Pakistanis and Indians were saying it. Just thought you might find that interesting.
