Thumbs up Harriet Miers Withdraws Her Nomination!

For those who don't yet know, Miers withdrew her nomination this morning saying that her confirmatino hearings would be detrimental to the White House. She is a loyalist, nobody can deny that.

I believe Bush asked her to resign her nomination so he could save face, but that's my opinion and might not be correct.

Either way, we'll get a new nominee; hopefully one that has some experience and clear-cut ideas.

I was surprised she was nominated in the first place. I think she would have really helped to overturn key aborition rulings and really advance the pro-life movement, which I liked, but I seriously don't think that she was the most qualified person for the job.

Bush nominates a great man like John Roberts, than digs up Harriet Meirs from somewhere.

She is probably a good person and a great legal mind, but by no means the best person for an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court.

Pheaton, I have a question for you. Why do you feel abortions should be illegal. It's ok for you not to believe in them (for whatever reasons) but why should everyone else in this country abide by what you believe to be right?

It's just personal. I feel that the law should be based off of a set of moral guildlines not based on a guideline that gives everyone the right to do whatever they want. My personal beliefs are that human life is sacred and not our own, so we don't have the right to end it, or even unnatrually prevent it.

As far as the way our law works and our society I understand that people can do immoral things if they want to, it's a free country. I just want some of the rulings protecting it to be overturned. I think the legality of it should be turned back over to the states. I think Meiers would of helped that process. Not necessarily making abortion illegal (although that would be nice), but overturning the federal protection of it.

well good. I mean how can bush attack all these muslim nations for the way they conduct their nations. well they run their countries like muslim countries. so what does bush do he attempts to turn this nation in to a christian nation. so he nominates this women based on how he knows shes religous and he knows her heart. well i have been raised by a sunday school teacher and if we want to run this nation as a christian nation the way that some of these republican special intrest groups want it would be just as bad as muslim nations. i was completely pro bush until he nominated this women. but this broke the camels back. and now he is using the same language towards syria as he did b4 he went in to iraq. isnt the whole point of iraq to stop terrorist? well maybe we shouldnt threaten nations that have already killed other countries leaders.

Your moral guidelines have much to do with your religion. In a state where everyone is free to practice (or not) their own religion you cannot make laws based on one religious belief.

People should be free to act unless their actions DIRECTLY affect the lives of others. By this reason I think abortion should be legal but smoking in public shouldn't.
