Yeah, so God is foremost in my life. Jesus wouldn't advocate putting someone to death, even if it is what they deserve. Hell is a bad enough place already, why hasten anyone's departure to go there?
That's my take. |
Listen, I'm the furthest thing from a Bible-thumper you'll ever see, but I have to agree with Zap and Pheaton in their conclusions (allbeit we reach them for a different reason).
Life is intrinsically valuable (as Kant held) and a person's life should never be taken by anyone. I differ from his opinion in that I believe suicide is honorable, but that's a small thing, really. It's a personal decision and I can't blame anyone for taking their own life if they see fit.
Anywho, the death penalty doesn't solve anything. People are more affraid of suffering than of dying. That's why the vision of Hell is so scary to some people. If you tell them they will suffer for a long ass time they are more apt to behave.
We need tougher punishments like castration for rapists and child molesters. If you don't think this will help I will gladly point at the Middle East where fear of having your hand chopped off is the biggest deterrent against theft. If you institure "Cut his D!ck off" punishment for murder I think you'll end up having more people thinking they don't want to lose little jimmy than you would have people stop and think they might get the chair.
