What are you guy's opinion of her? Do you believe that she will get confirmed, did Bush make a very bad decision by choosing her over "other well qualified people with experience", or because she's a friend of his?
I think it's just a classic example of repayment of favors. He probably promised her this if she'd get him off some DWI charge 20 years ago and now he's screwed.
All joking aside, I don't believe we know enough about her to put her there. Also, she's not even a federal lawyer (one who practices federal law) so the learning curve is too great.
I believe a judge or really, really good lawyer should be picked and not this person.

I do think that it is the good ol' buddy system at work. Maybe she's a friend of Laura Bush. They both went to SMU (not sure if they went at the same time though). I did want another lady to replace Sandra Day O'Connor, but OMG, she should have alot more experience and credentials than Miers.
Also, she's supposed to be real buddy-buddy with Condi Rice, who is a serious contender for the Republican presidential nomination. I think that Bush and Rice are close enough friends with her to know how she will vote if she becomes a justice--Bush is just trying to get people that share his values into important positions in government... which is what anyone in his shoes would do.
I think at the very least this is a strange nomination by the President.
In my opinion there are far more qualified people out there for the position, but at the same time, there are people far less qualified for the job. I can't help but wonder if they have some sort of agreement. Maybe she has agreed to vote certain ways on certain cases.
I just can't imagine that this choice was based solely on qualifications, or experience.

I think it's quite obvious that she made clear the way she would vote on certain issues(abortion wink wink). That's why he nominated someone with no track record.
She's a nobody that would never be qualified for a position like this, so obviously she'll repay him with whatever he wants. Roberts was obviously waaay more qualified than Miers, but he likely made similar assurances to Bush that he would overturn Roe v Wade. It's actually a very smart move by Bush.
I do wonder the effect of overturning Roe V Wade will have on the republican party. They have been able to run on that issue for years without actually having to anything about it. Without such a slam dunk hotbutton issue to run on anymore, they would lose a very powerful campaign platform.
There is certainly a school of thought that Republicans would rather not see Roe overturned. That way they can always continue to chip away at different minor abortion rights, yet still hold the issue itself as a sort of carrot to lure evangelical voters to the polls.
well good. I mean how can bush attack all these muslim nations for the way they conduct their nations. well they run their countries like muslim countries. so what does bush do he attempts to turn this nation in to a christian nation. so he nominates this women based on how he knows shes religous and he knows her heart. well i have been raised by a sunday school teacher and if we want to run this nation as a christian nation the way that some of these republican special intrest groups want it would be just as bad as muslim nations. i was completely pro bush until he nominated this women. but this broke the camels back. and now he is using the same language towards syria as he did b4 he went in to iraq. isnt the whole point of iraq to stop terrorist? well maybe we shouldnt threaten nations that have already killed other countries leaders.

You make a good point but I think that abortion will eventually ease it's way into society as an acceptable practice. All things eventually do. It's only been legal for what, 30 some years? Give it another 20 and it will be commonplace. The same goes with Gay Rights. Once it's ruled to be legal for them to marry it will be a hotbutton issue for about 50 years and then drop off (if our country lasts that long).
