Poll: who's really guilty?

Well, who's really to blame for the Abu Ghraib scandal, the individual soldiers (acting on their own, yeah, right!) or the top brass who might have ordered it and certainly condoned it?

http://abcnews.go.com/International/...=730733&page=1

BTW, I guess I can't make a poll since I'm not a premium member, but you can just type in what you think.

I blame the media; they are the ones that blew this whole episode up into what it is. It's really not all that big of a deal, when you realize the "prisoner abuse" they were subjected to: Stupid stuff. Humiliation, yes. Actual abuse? No. No torture, no beheadings, no rapings. Just idiots and pictures and leashes... etc.
Granted, I didn't actually see a lot of the pictures that were taken. But I know that the Iraqi prisoners fared far better than they did while in their army, and also better than they did when they were targeted by their dictator.... and also better than many people in US Prisons.

That being said, I do believe that it was the higher up brass that "suggested" it, if not ordered it... and yes, condoned it. But the amount that this had been blown out of proportion by our own media is preposterous. No one really cares except the people that want to nitpick against GWB on every single little thing he has done. Apart from that, it gets about the same reaction as the AshtonKutcher-DemiMoore wedding: it gets a nod, a "wow", and people move right along. Throwing people in prison for 10 years... give me a freaking break. You can murder someone in cold blood back in the states and be out in less than that.

Nobody really cares except the people that criticize (sp?) ANYTHING the current administration does anyways. It shouldn't have been done, no. But creating this HUGE issue out of it...? That's just out of line.

In short, I blame the media.

On a seperate note: SilverDevil if you'd like me to make a poll, I will... just let me know what you want me to put If you don't put "media" in there, I will put "other"

Follow the link and you will see a link for the pictures. Actually, here you go: http://abcnews.go.com/International/...opup?id=133596

Some of them are humiliating and if that happened here it would be a HUGE lawsuit and millions and millions of dollars would be paid out as well as the people who orquestrated it being fired. This, however, is not conducent to jail time, IMHO.

it is a big deal because it gives muslim extremist propaganda to convince their foot soldiers to fight to the death. normally if theres 5 of you and 5 on my side and you kill 2 of my side i give up. however when i think if i give up i will be gay raped and have pics of me posted on the net and i will miss out on my free pass to heaven. hmmm maybe i will strap a bomb to my back kill as many of you as i can then blow myself up b4 you rape me. i know we arnt raping these arabs but we need to treat them as well as we can. remember we came to them they(boys who were 14 on 9/11/01) didnt come to us.

^^ you make a good point, Nick.

People will fight regardless but you have people willing to fight in a fiercer manner if they think that by dying that way they will go to heaven.

Islamic extremism isn't that new, either. Has anyone heard that Marine song "from the halls of Montezuma to the shores of Tripoli?" Do you know where that comes from? The ruler of Tripoli was taking American seamen as slaves because, as he so eloquently put it, they were infidels and the Qu'ran gave him the power to do so. Finally, after many bribes were paid to the Barbary states, President Jackson decided to go to war and, 4 years later, won that war. But it all stemed from Radical Ismam back in the late 1700s. This will never end.

Media? The media reports .. they don't actually do what was being done ... yeah it wasn't that bad, but give me a break, how is the media to blame for it ... ..... But again, your a Republican, so I guess "Blame the media" is defence number one in your playbook ....

Actually I'm not a republican. I'm not a Dem either. I'm just someone who's sick of all the petty fighting. Republicans treat Bush as the best thing since sliced bread, Dems act like Bush is the devil incarnate (or would that be Jesus Christ, since they all hate Christians?).

Since this "prison scandal", Dems are treating this as a great opportunity to critisize the current administration. I really don't think it's all that big of a deal, it was blown out of proportion by the media who desperately want to jump on the liberal bandwagon and bash the administration.

That's not making excuses for what should not have happened, but blowing it up into a huge deal does not help our country or it's reputation. But then again, liberals think that our country is "evil" and that we deserve the reputation we have, because of our "imperialism" that we have engaged in.

Seriously, you expect me to believe your not a Republican... I'm a Liberal and I really don't think the US is evil, I think you generalize WAY to much ... The media reported what happened at Abu grab. Yeah it was on all the time, but considering the evidence and the stories coming out of there, why wouldn't it be ... this is a typical "shoot the messenger" cop out ... How about you blame the parties involved who gave the soliders involved a bad name, even though I do believe there are honest and good soliders, there are also real ass.holes as well I am sure ...

Each person is responsible for themselves. If the commanders gave the orders, than they are just as guilty as the ones that carried them out.
