i originally liked the idea of the cato institute but the more i read about it the more it sounds like a propaganda machine. for some reason republicans view what ever comes from them is gold. however their latest suggestions for paying for katrina is to cut nasa in half. i know nasa is expensive and hard to justify but we have come so far and has really helped us in many ways. alot of our best scientist only got into science because of the chance of going into space. they also want to cut subsides to new energy research. yeah this is the time to do that when gas is at 3 a gal cut research on alternative fuel research. they did not recomend cutting subsides to oil companies. anyways this is the group that wants to fix social security even though ronald and bob dole have both fixed this problem b4 retiring. anyways long story short as a republican i got the tax cuts i wanted and didnt get any of the conservative spending that comes with it. now that bush and his brains have been painted into a corner they talk about cutting major institutions that employ millions of americans. well what could they do? i dont know close the tax loop hole to major corporations like haliburton that have po boxes in the bahamas or cayman islands. then award massive govt contracts to these companys. o or they could raise taxes. but no no no thats just wrong. anyways do some research on cato institute because they have a ton of influince and a lot of writers are members of the cato institute.
