all i have to say is if you don't like it you can GTFO. im not from here, i can deal with taxes, i am lucky i don't have to deal with people trying to kill me cause of my religion. so quit yer bitchin. be happy.
hmm lets see. we see fireman, roads, police, parks, schools and many other things but if you think you see nothing i feel ya. but just be glad you arnt in europe where gas is over 5per gal. and tax rates are over 50% for everyone and it a drivers license is a 3000 dollar fee.
dont forget that europe isnt nearly as dependent on fuel like America.
Sure, it's one thing to say "be glad you don't live in a socialist country"... but then why cant we say "I want to live in a FREE Country"?
I don't mind paying a few taxes for Police, Firefighters, Schoolteachers, etc.
But the mismanagement of goverment is horrendous. They have so much, SO MUCH freaking money, and they mismanage is SO HORRIBLY. I don't want to pay for research on freaking red toed frogs, I don't want to pay for research on how much pigeon poop erodes statues in parks, I don't want to pay for senators to have a pay increase. I don't want to pay for people from foriegn countries to come in here, have babies and not increase the general appeal or contribute ANYTHING to this nation. I don't want to pay for bums to walk around on the streets. I don't want to pay for idiots who build their home in a place that floods every single freaking year, where insurance companies won't insure it... and when it floods and destroys the house, the gov't pays for it. Every year. I don't want to pay for ghetto people on welfare who end up having 22 kids and require their own house with several washers and dryers. I don't want to pay for illegal drugs for druggies to use. I don't want to pay for politicians to act like the budget is one big fun bag with money to spend how they want.
When it comes down to it, this country is so corrupt. I have to live here though.
The worst thing is that "experts" say "we need to increase taxes" instead of saying "we need to stop spending so much". It's ghetto. And it won't change. It'll only get worse....
Someone finally said what I couldn't quite figure out how to say... Oh, and how does it make you feel when you realize that the only way you can justify anything that the government does to the people in this country is to compare it to "lesser" countries?
Sure, it's one thing to say "be glad you don't live in a socialist country"... but then why cant we say "I want to live in a FREE Country"?

this is so true its not a joke. i work for the state of ca edd. when i started there were 8 of us doing the work of 6 in the past 5 months they have hired 5 more people and the work load hasnt increased. they know if they dont max out their funds they wont get more money next year. o did i mention i get a sick day a vacation day and a paid holiday every month. o and i have a pension not a 401k so i can blow my savings and not worry about the future. and as far as the state running out of money and not paying my pesion well they will raise taxes. long story short i have been there for 5 months they pay me to go to college i have full benifits i do less work than ever i get a 100 dollar raise every 6 months and can take a week off next month. so yeah taxes suck.
me? its all true. i am not being sarcastic just tellin you how 18k a month is wasted monthly with 7 employees. oh thats just under my supervisor. theres like 40 supervisors per floor.

Sorry to break it to you, but this country is no longer "by the people, of the people, for the people".
You wanna know how it works? Politicians are greedy and the #1 THING THEY CARE ABOUT is getting re-elected. Their political agenda comes #2. Understand that first of all. Ethics right out the door.
Because the #1 thing they care about is to get reelected, whoever fills their coffers... aka provides their campaign funds, THAT is who they are loyal to. Guess what? It's not the american people. It's big business. And I'm not talking about just republican's here, I'm talking EVERYBODY. Because big business... that means the NRA, Marlburo, Wal-Mart, Haliburton, Microsoft, Time Magazine, NBC News, GM, Motorola, and anyone else... because they don't WANT to stop outsourcing jobs, even though 98% of american's want it... we can't get that stuff on the ballot, it's blocked. And because the two party system has failed us... that is, we can't reasonably get anyone else elected that cares for the people, we have to choose between a "R" or a "D", neither of which care anything about us, but only care about who pays for them to get elected... well, we're screwed. 70% of Americans want to stop the flood of illegal immigration, 95% want the immigration thing at least REFORMED... but guess what? Aint gonna happen. The country doesn't belong to us anymore, it belongs to politicians, who are ENTRENCHED in congress, state senate, capitol buildings, the white house, city counsels.... there's no way the lowly american can do anything to influence anything.
I'll say that again. THERE'S NO WAY THE LOWLY AMERICAN CAN DO ANYTHING TO INFLUENCE ANYTHING. WHY? Because how are they going to spread the word? The Media won't give them a voice... they'll see their own necks on the line. How are you going to let your voice be heard if newspapers, the nightly news, magazines... wont support you? You'll be blackballed. Corporate America now owns America, and we are stuck. We have to go along for the ride.

well for those of us in california we have the chance to get our district line re-drawn by non politicians.
• And Proposition 77, which has judges draw legislative districts instead of lawmakers, will fix a system ``rigged'' to protect incumbents.

Arnold does seem like he's legitimately tried to make some changes... but he's fighting big business... namely the unions, who are so deeply entrenched that he's losing the battle.
They are actually accusing HIM of bowing in to big business...
Although this is a good start... I don't really see it happening. Everyone seems to hate him right about now, mainly because they buy what the unions are saying...
well he is on the wrong side of a non stop attack campaign with fireman and teachers saying he wants them all to have no retirement or take a huge cut in pay. he has nothing to do with those things. the unions wont give those up. yeah he asked for that but kind of in the way you offer someone 5k for a 12k car. one they may say ok, 2 if they get 11k for it they feel like champs. another reason they hate him is every time something happens the national press says "but california will be ok the terminator will stop this from happening again" . he is doing exactly what we wanted him to do.
its bad to us but the reason why some of us compare, is because corruption is much worse in other countries.
you should see the stats on government and business corruption across the globe. we have it pretty good still, IMO (but it can always be better).
the country is run by a few group of elites.. they're not necessary the smart people, but they're the ones with the money and power. that's how it works and that's probably how it'll always work.
plan? be one of 'em. you either work the system, or let the system work for you. yeah thats easier said than done - its also very cliche too
Well, explain to me why we should be taxed on vehicles and homes simply because we own them... It's absolutely rediculous... and i'm sorry if I don't agree with everything i'm told... Remember, people who know that you have no way of knowing the truth will tell you what they want you to believe.
You're taxed on a vehicle for owning it? What state do you live in? I've never been taxed on my vehicle except for when I bought it and that was only sales tax.

That's what pisses me off.
Zap, you contradict yourself. You say that politicians only follow the money but then you say that they only care about being re-elected. Which is it? If the majority of the people are for one issue and he votes against it to get money for his re-election nobody will vote for him and he gets the shaft. You do have politicians who do that but it's on lesser issues, things people aren't passionate about. The only way to change that is to be passionate about the issues that matter to the public's well-being instead of being concerned about which one we like better, who's the cuttest, or which one is of the party we like the most.
If most people were passionate about, say, creating more anti-curruption legislation and a non-partisan team to head it, it would be done simply because the politician would rather skip on the money people in order to stay in office and have a chance to steal more money down the road on lesser important issues.
