why is that ugly. the pie isnt a pie. its more like a salad bar. the size of your plate can vary allowing some people to grab more cabbage at once vs. someone else. but the salad will always be there for who ever wants it. the 30% who control 90% worked harder, used contraception, went to college, and alot of them at some point took a huge risk where they went from making 40k a year to make 90k but theres a chance they could have lost it all. yes there are ppl who are just born into it.
We should aspire to be in the top 30% not get upset that its this way.

Actyally, many soldiers are living under the poverty level. I know many military families who survive because of federal aid such as WIC and food stamps.

I just find it ugly because as I said, professionals and people who had a degree and work hard are still in the 70% of people, even if you earn 90k a year you are still in the 70%. Not to mention the respectful soldiers, police officers and fireman...they would be in the mid-low end of the 70%.

so. you can survive with that. at 40k a year with a wife who makes 20-40k a year you can buy a 1700 square foot house which is more than enough and retire with funded i.r.a's and 401k's. the sad fact about this nation is the fact that people buy stupid stuff like tahoes at employee prices not realizing gas is at 3dollars a gallon so you neutralize the discount with your gas. they buy 4 room houses b4 they have kids not allowing them to have any money to save for rainy days due to their large un justified mortgage. the sad fact is that people dont go to financial planners once every 6months because they dont think they need to. well rich people dont need financial planners because generally they dont need to make ends meet. its the average to poor person who can truely benifit from financial planning. just go down to your bank and ask them if they offer it or would suggest someone.

Ugly fact number 2 : 69% of all percents on the internet are made up.
discuss
Oh so very true.
In all reality, somewhere around the top 5% own roughly 90% of the wealth. The next top 30% own another 50% of the wealth.
From there, another 10% own 10% of the wealth,
and about 45% own about -20%.
The lowest 10% of people own somewhere around -30%.
Break this down, and these statistics are NOT FACT. Someone else needs to find the true ones because I don't care.
The richest people own a lot because they are not in debt, and in fact they loan out their money to the poor.
The 2nd richest people own a good amount, but aren't rich enough to loan out a ton of their money.
The 3rd group basically own themselves and not much more, but they aren't in debt.
4th group is in debt, probably owning a house which is the cause of their debt.
The last group is the poorest.
Incidentally, people that simply have their homes paid off are easily in the 2nd-3rd group, poor people or not. It's the middle class that's in the bottom 2 groups, with the credit cards and homes that are not paid off...
Actyally, many soldiers are living under the poverty level. I know many military families who survive because of federal aid such as WIC and food stamps.
Most Enlisted members are paid sh|t! Now thats an "Ugly" fact for you right there, these people put their lives on the line every single day and the guy working the window at the local Taco Bell makes a better living asking if you would like Hot Sauce with your order...

If 5% owns 90% how much of that 5% does Bill Gates make up? lol
You're talking about the 15 million richest people in america...
Bill Gates owns virtually none of that, percentage-wise. His 40 billion or whatever may be the highest, but there are so many other billionaires and millionaires, they trounce Bill's little "fortune". You're talking about the percentage of 40 billion out of 40 trillion or something. That's like .1 PERCENT. Nada...
^uhm you ARE aware he is the richest man in the world...
anyway, heres an idea > forbes yearly list of american billionares. bill holds a mighty position, while the worth of these people amounts to over 1 trillion, he holds the biggest piece http://www.forbes.com/400richest/
and http://www.forbes.com/2005/03/09/bill05land.html

Yes, he IS the richest man in the world, however if you get the 15 MILLION richest americans, they completely trounce him. His 40-50 billion he's worth is not even a fraction of the worth that 15 million richest americans make. You look at the top 3 after him, and they are worth more than him....
These are some related official facts from the US Census...
US population: 295,734,134 (July 2005 est.)
The advance of technology since WWII largely explains the gradual development of a "two-tier labor market" in which those at the bottom lack the education and the professional/technical skills of those at the top and, more and more, fail to get comparable pay raises, health insurance coverage, and other benefits. Since 1975, practically all the gains in household income have gone to the top 20% of households.
Labor Force: 147.4 million (includes unemployed) (2004 est.)
so what! all of us have been told "if you wanna be rich go to college" then at the age of 17 alot of us realized thats bull so we went out and got awesome 10-20 dollar an hour jobs at the age of 18. this is huge when you see your friends go to college making 6.75 an hour and never sleeping. but then 4-6 years later the college kid gets paid 30-70 an hour if they picked the right major where as after 5 years doing flooring you are now a team leader making 28 dollars an hour. i know single mothers working their way thru college. theres ways to do it in this nation. and as far as benifits go they stopped going up because they are simply too expensive. people abuse their co-pays if its only 10 dollars to go to the doctors for a sprain your gonna go even if you dont need to which drives up demand and prices. and unions did themseves in. they demanded so much money that companys cant afford the crazy benifits, retirement and vacation time with high pay. then when they go on vaacation they cant hire a cheap temp because everyone will strike. please explain to me why being on top is ugly if you can actually give me a solid reason i will be open minded so please give me a reason to even care about these stats

UHM going to college and having a degree does NOT guarrantee you a well paying job. I still make more than ALL the college grads i know, excluding my father and some other random people. all the people my age that graduated make much much less than i... and someone that i know who is just 22 (a year older than me) makes 70k + a year, and he never went to college. he got lucky kinda and landed a sweet job with a japanese company doing random computer stuff 99% of the time from home. then he gets to go to japan once every few years and stay there for a few months. it pays to be a computer nerd

Coming from someone who was in the airforce for 1 year, I'm surprised to see this. I guess things have changed since '93. I am an E-3, my monthly pay is currently about 1300 after taxes. But that is not counting all the benefits. The benefits are where we really get hooked up. Not to mention getting deployed to Iraq helps alot of people out. Some people come back from Iraq and buy a brand new car, and I mean the whole car, not a loan. So yea..

1300 a month? i make more than that gettin paid 9 bucks and hour plus tax. that sucks. you deserve a raise. and btw people need to realize that 10 years ago is a different time. the country is "growing" cause everyone is still moving from all other coutnries. maybe if they get a draft going, the country would empty out back to 260 million
I think going to college ensures you to have an easier life then not. Sure a person can make 50k a year doing construction or something but his killing himself. I rather make 40k sitting behind a computer in an air conditioned room...

1300 a month plus free food, free board, free education and free travel. yeah we can all make more money than any enlisted man but they have no basic worries of covering rent or how they are going to afford to eat at the end of the month.

^^^ nick is right. we dont get paid shit, but all that bullshit you all dont want to pay for but have to, we dont pay for. All the cash i make goes to wants, not needs. Car loan, insurance, cell phone, and stuff i want to buy. I don't pay for where i live, medical and dental coverage, education, food, any of that shit.

He's got a point. Everything is paid for. It's like the president of the US, he has everything provided for him... he doesn't really NEED the $200k a year salary he gets. What would he need it for... rent?
not trying to 1-up you, but i believe the presidential salary is double that. $200k is more the vice presidential salary.
In fact, if anyone is interested,
"Effective January 1, 2001, the annual salary of the president of the United States was increased to $400,000 per year, including a $50,000 expense allowance.
Vice President's Salary
The salary of the vice president is currently (for 2004) $202,900
Presidential Retirement and Maintenance
Former President Clinton will get an annual pension of $151,800 plus up to $150,000 a year to maintain an office and staff. Had Hillary Clinton not been elected to the U.S. Senate, she would have received $20,000 per year as a former First Lady.
Retired Presidents and First Ladies also receive Civil Service protection for 10 years after leaving office. Children of retired Presidents receive protection until they are 16 years old. (3 U.S.C. Chapter 3)" - About.com
