But since this thread started I will voice my opinion. I hate the fact that we have so many illegal immigrants here. First off, I live in a city with more illegal mexicans then legal residents. And it has gotten so bad that now most jobs require you to speak spanish. Not every job, but when you look in the paper it will say "Must be bilengual". thats bullshit. We live in america, we speak english. I am pretty sure it doesnt say "must speak english" over there in mexico. Now this also goes for all others races and nationalities with illegal immigrants over here. But I think hispanics and mexicans are the worst. The government needs to crack down on it. They need to start having check points everywhere and start deporting illegals back to there country.

Moving on to the topic, the government has moved towards big business, it's no secret Bush is for this kind of politics. It really isn't a secret he loosened the citizenship laws so that the hispanic community would vote for him (see Florida). So the way I see it is that the Republicans have used the immagration to their advantage and as long as they are in power, it will be a problem. But even the democrats will not really crack down on it as much as I think it needs to be.
Well, I know this will probably get someone mad at me, but it's how I see it, and before flaming goes on, please back your case up with sources and figures, I will do the same when I get time and if someone shows interest.

exactly. If you were born here and are legal, thats fine. I have no problem with mexicans and hispanics, I have even dated a few hispanic chicks, but the problem is with illegals. It seems they are taking over. Especially here in houston. You have to live around it to really understand. I am sure the other people who live in houston know what I am talking about.

I believe we are all citizens of the world. Just like some people believe we are all children of the same god, I guess. As such, we are all free to roam the Earth and settle where it is more convenient for us. That the people who were there first don't like it, true, but that's not a reason to disallow people from moving/settling there.
I only have a few restrictions on this. 1. They have to abide by the laws of the place where they move to; 2. no laws can be enacted to prevent new people from moving there or to give those who were there first any type of advantage over the newly-moved person. IMV, we're all equal as human beings and we all live on this planet so we should all be free to roam it as we see fit.
People need to understand that nobody is worth more than anyone else (not monetarily) and we all deserve the same rights, freedoms, and opportunities.
So, I guess we should have open borders and nobody should be stopped from trying to gain a better life for themselves.
It annoys me to no end when people say "this is America, speak English!" Last I checked there is no official language and there is no official religion. That is tantamount to saying "this is America, practice Christianity!" We have a right to practice whatever religion we want and we have a right to speak whatever language we want. It is not an Italian person's fault that people are ignorant and can't speak their language. If they want to survive (they being immigrants) they will eventually have to learn English or they will only stay in a small section and never really prosper. It all works itself out in the end. But to say that they *NEED* to speak English just because you dont' understand their language is ludicrous. It shows nothing but insecurity. Strive to learn another language (I'm fully bilingual and can read/understand most of three other languages).

In Canada there is a HUGE problem with this...not in all parts of it though. I know that here in Ottawa the main problem is Somolian's.
Now first off....I don't care who comes here as long as you're supposed to be here and you don't start milking the system the minute you get here. But seriously...these people are awful I hate to say it but damn....they're dirty, they soak more welfare checks than they legally should and all their kids do is go out break into cars and smash bus shelters.
Used to be that this area here in Ottawa (Bayshore) was actually a beautiful spot to live but not long after they all started taking up residence there it turned to s.hit. now you have buildings with freakin sheets for curtains ON THE OUTSIDE of the windows and burnt out 88 Accords all over the place.

Anyway, I partially agree, but even you said the people should follow the laws. If you go through the proper channels and such there is no problem. The problem I have with illegal immergration is that they generally do not pay taxes. To me tht's wrong, I understand that people should be able to go where ever they want, but like you said they have to follow the law of that land.
So I guess the only point we disagree on is the part of an immigration limit.

In Ottawa it's the Lebanese and Somolian's for the most part...a lot of East Indian as well.
Toronto it's largely Asian and Middle Eastern.
Just too many of them are allowed in and they're basically handed housing, and money the second they get here.
Example:
This guy I know hired a cook at his retaurant (under the table). The guy was from Lebanon. He worked there for like 7 years and in that time he was collecting welfare (cuz they had no way to know he was working) and brought his wife over which only increased the amount of welfare he got. Then he cranked out 3 kids and got all the monthly baby bonus money from the gov on top of that. He sent a ton of the money back to his dad in Lebanon (who owns a housing development company) and had a HUGE home built to where he eventually ****ed off with his family to live in....but not before raping the system for about 8 years here in Canada

Whoa, I had no idea people did that, although I suppose now there is starting to be a problem where I live with illegal imigration. I love to go to Mexcan and Chinese places to eat. I work with a chineese guy and a guy from Comlumbia (Spanish speaking) and they talk to the waitors and all and find out that almost all the cooks are illegal.
This probably doesn't surprise many people, but I live in Ohio, I'm literally thousands of miles from Mexico and the Western coast (that's where most chinese enter) and we're getting illegals up here. IDK, I guess I just thought because we're so far away from borders where I am, we didn't get many.
But yeah, taking money from the government while working is horrible, that guy should have jail time.... It's like the girl that was in front of me at the grocery store the other day, she pays $80 some dollars with food stamps and walk out to a brand new $50k Caddy. But welfare is a whole different thread.

Yes, I'm a big proponent of always following the law. If you don't like it, you don't go around it, you lobby to have it changed, even if the law is blatantly wrong.
That being said, I guess I'm in favor of the law being changed (loosened up).

In that situation, I agree that the law should favor the majority of the citizenship. The way to do this is to have people get compensation for reporting welfare fraud (for example, give them $3000 or something) and then you fine the abuser that same amount, stop their aid, and maybe give them 30 days of jail + 600 hours of community service. That's for abusing the system and the reward would cost a little but save the gvt. money in the long run.
But the people who bennefit from this aren't the big businesses, it's the small mom-and-pop people and farmers (at least in the SW US). Farmers hire illegals to do cheap manual labor and the small, individual stores and restaurants hire them as janitors and cooks/busboys respectively. Big business doesn't profit from it but, to cut it out, would affect the economy because it would raise prices in those places as well as increase crime since those people will now be out of work and will have no recourse but to steal.
I also think the gvt. should severly fine businesses that use illegals. Another compensation-driven program would work well here, too.

ok, I dont know what the population ratio in washington is, but here in houston it is probably 60/40 mexicans to white. Now I disagree on what you said about we are all citizens, the illegal immigrants arent citizens of the US. they are from mexico and other various countries. And you even said it, they need to abide by the laws on where they move too. But they break that rule when they come over illegally. Illegal immigration is a huge problem in this city. Yes, they are human beings just like anyone else, but when they come over here, the city is starting to adapt to the way they live in the other countires and it effects the people who already lived here.
Now I shouldnt have to strive to learn another language. Most of america speaks english. This isnt a spanish speaking country. Why should I have to try and learn 10 other languages when they can come over here and learn 1? When anyone from another country comes here, all they need to learn is english and there set. But I shouldnt have to try and learn spanish, chineese, japeneese, italian, french, etc... just to live. And just to get a job. Most jobs here now require you to be bilingual. thats bullshit. hardly anyone here speaks spanish, except hispanics and people from various foreign countries, and there are some white people who did learn it. I bet if you went to china, or japan, or asia, they wouldnt have jobs that say "must speak english". Because most everyone over in those countries speak asian, chineese or japaneese.
Now I could care less who lives here, as long as you are here legally. The illegal immigration is a big issue here because if effects the economy. I am not racist or anything, and I have several friends that moved here from other countries, but they came here legally and learned to speak english to get by here. And most of them feel the same way, if you come to america, you need to abide by america laws.
Now just like pharoh said, houston used to be a nice place, but now it has turned to shit. I dont like being in houston because of the bad pollution we have, and because most of the city is run down by illegals. Everywhere you go is crappy. Now once you get outside the city, there are nice areas, but the city sucks.
