Whats the point of a Judge sentencing someone to Multiple Life Sentences?

I dont understand it, why do courts (Judges) sentance people to multiple life sentences? Do they think these people are going to live for 200+ years or something?

They gace the BTK killer 10 life sentences for his murders. Kansas didnt have the death penalty when he did the murders, but I think life in prison with no possibility of parole would have been the same thing.

I think killers should recieve the harshest punishment possible, but giving them 10,20 or so life sentences is stupid.

what do you think?

but wouldnt sentencing them to life with no possibility of parole prevent them from getting out?

there's no guarantee that will keep them behind bars forever. If a person only has one life sentence without the possibility of parole, some lawyers can find loopholes so that the person actually gets out of prison after 10 years or so.

I think multiple life sentences are to show the severity of the crime they committed so that a parole board knows better than to release them, no matter what the convict's lawyer tries to pull.

exactly, now if a lawyer finds something in one of those cases, he has to prove it in each life sentence to get that verdict dismissed, but then most likely the prosecutor would file another charge to book him back into jail and then fix that loop hole in those cases.

in some places, like in cali i believe, a life sentence means youre eligible for parole in 7 years... unless its life without parole.
multiple sentences also help to bring some closure to victims' families, as each sentence represents the punishment for each victim/crime.
and a case can still be appealed, so multiple sentences means that if one is appealed, theres still more sentences to hold the criminal in jail.

done and done.

parole

but seriously, they should be held accountable for each and every crime -

i wouldnt want to take the chance of them getting out on a technicality -

personally i think they should be shot at some random interval while imprisoned -

just mess with them on a daily basis - bang oops not loaded LOL and then one day bang goodbye phucker

10 murders = 10 sentences I guess

I saw this on TV right as I was typing this. Life without possibility of parole for 40 years.

I believe he got 175 years in total. 10 sentences = 17.5 years each. Maybe he needed so many to make sure he never got out.
