idleing problems

I have a 96 DX and when you start it it idles fine for a min or 2 but then revs up high then low then high then low it doesn't stop. Doesn't effect driving, but embarrassing at stop lights, everyone thinks I want to race LOL what is it? and how much will it cost? Re: idleing problems

This is most likely your Idle Air Control Valve. (a valve that controls the air flow for idle, since the throttle body is closed off) Something like the sensor or motor going out/malfunctioning. I had a a '93 dodge colt that did this at stop lights too, you feel real silly.

You may be able to remove it and clean it, but I bet it just needs a new one.

Good Luck

Re: idleing problems

i had this problem after i changed by timing belt on my 98EX, i tried to set the idle at .9 and whenever i stopped at a light or whatever it either stuck at 2 or rose and fell between 1 and 2 RPMs.

Try maybe adjusting your timing?
