The paranoia in this thread is astounding Any oil under normal conditions in this car can go 5K miles. If you're autocrossing in the desert you might want to reconsider that, but Honda isn't going to give out BS advice when their reputation is on the line. There's definitely no way I'd change even dino oil BEFORE 3K, that's just insane. I run my Mobil 1 to 5 or 6, which puts me at two oil changes a year. My UOAs come back looking great too.

3K oil changes are called Dealer Added Profits. That's why the dealers keep telling their customers to change every 3K when clearly the manual saids 10K under normal condition. If you drive mostly city driving, then use the severe interval recommended by the manual. It is ridiculous how many people still believe this deceptive mantra. Another thing, use any brand you like as long as the viscosity is correct. All oil has to meet a minimum industry requirements, which is stated in your manual (Read It!). Stick with it and your life will be alot less stressful.

Hummm... my dealer says to do it every 5k. Yet I still go every 3-4k, why, because no body has ever shown me hard proof that it can go 5-6k on organic oil and not cause harm. When many poeple reaches 200k+ mile and only changes their oil every 5k, then I'll do it. Untill then I'll stick with it what works. Yes it is paranoia, peranoia that I may have to change an engine at 100k which is far more costly than changing oils every 3-4k.
i change my oil whenever i feel is needed. i check the dipstick every weekend and if it looks ugly (and i know what used oil looks like compared to new), then ill change it. regardless if i drove only 1000 miles or 5000. when the oil is black or fades closely to black, i will change it.
and 3k oil changes are dealer profits? MAYBE if your bringing it in to the dealer to get it changed. but other than that, not at all.
How many quarts is it for the change, I have been using 4 and check the dipstick and it appears correct, but I can not find anything in the manual that says how many quarts to use (this problem may have somthing to do w/ that fact i got my car w/o one, and hit up ebay for a replacement for $4, so pages may be missing, lol). I not new to cars, just to the civic. Thanks!

Do you have an EX or LX/DX?
EX I think is 3.4 w/o oil filter and 3.8 with the oil filter
I think the LX/DX is a little less, like 0.2 less or something? not sure never had one?
I usually just make the dip stick is to the full mark, then start the car turn it off, wait for the oil to drian down and check it agian. It usually comes to just a little under 4 quarts.
Honda says:
EX/HX/SE
oil change with filter:3.5
oil change with out filter:3.3
oil capicity:4.2 (remember some oil is left in the engine during the change so this much should not be put in)
DX/LX
oil change with filter:3.2
oil change with out filter:3
oil capicity:4.2
yeah i go 60 going and 60 back plus some local. i probably change my oil every 2 to 3 months. Just from going by the 5k average. Kinda sux i have a 04 and i have 31k on my car.

Honda says you can go 10k without changing your filter. So you can do two 5k oil changes in that time. I personally change my filter every time, but I guess you don't have to. I have to change my oil about every 6 weeks too, I go about 3-4k depending on the weather out side and how busy I am.
