Question about New Orleans

Hey guys! Hopefully you can help me with this. My wife and I are going to New Orleans tommorrow from Kansas City. We have never been there before and I was looking for some info. We are staying at the Ramada Downtown on Gravier St. Is that a nice part of town where we can just walk around and possibly walk to Bourbon St.? Also, what is a good restaurant we can eat at? Thanks for any info or advice you can give us. To remove this ad, register today for free or log in if already registered!

Yea dont fret just about everything in NO is within walking distance. Jimmy Buffets margaritaville is a great place to eat but is usually packed. I would stay away from emerils resturant its like 50 bux for a steak thats 2x2 inches.

Thanks. So we don't have to worry about it being unsafe around there or anything? Thanks for the restaurant suggestion. I'm pretty excited to go, our plane leaves in the morning.

you can eat at the hard rock cafe. The atmosphere there is really cool, and the food is good to.

Yeah don't worry about anything. IT'S MARDI GRAS MAN!

As for restaurants, you might wanna try some of these out:

Pat O'Briens (right outside of the French Quarter, great New Orleans atmosphere, favorite of the locals including myself, home of the world famous Hurricane drink)

Cafe du Monde (right outside of the French Quarter, a must stop in for any out of towner, home of the original New Orleans beignets and cafe au lait, good dessert after Pat O's)

anyplace serving seafood (there's no better thing to try while in N.O., be sure to get some boiled crawfish if you get a chance)

Enjoy the visit and the parades.

Oh and I almost forgot....
prepare to be very crowded on Bourbon St. and be warned that regardless of how long you stay in that crazy mass of drunk people down there, you and your wife will probably get groped a few times, and some of those times might not even be of the opposite sex! It's just something you can expect when you are trying to walk down a street with thousands of other people crammed in there like sardines.

Have fun!

If you want to really see NO, visit all those spots he just said. We checked those out when we went to Baton Rouge to visit some family.

p.s.- see if you can spot the kids on the street that put beer bottle caps on their shoes and tap dance....they're pretty dam good at it.

thanks for all the input guys. we actually won't be staying there long. we are going on a cruise and the boat leaves out of new orleans, so we just decided to stay for a little while. it sounds like a blast.
