Post Removing The Shift **** Off A Manual Transmission

<p><font face="Verdana">Below you'll find the links to the few pages that show you how to do this. They contain fairly high res pics, so be warned -- if you're not on a broadband connection, you're gonna have to wait... --- for the rest of you have fun =o) (YES I know...I'm biased to what I have...and I have a broadband.) <br /><br /></font><table cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" border="0"><tbody><tr><td><font face="Verdana"><img height="480" alt="The OEM Shift **** Removed" src="/diyimages/shiftknob01.jpg" width="320" /></font></td><td bgcolor="#dcdcdc"><h3><font face="Verdana">1.</font></h3><p><font face="Verdana">Before we begin, let's examine this simple OEM Shift **** that seems to be giving so many newbies problems. If you take a look at this picture it'll help you understand how it's kept on. Notice that it has two notches one on each side of the shift **** -- This is what keeps the shift boot on the ****!</font></p><p><font face="Verdana">Okay So know that you understand how this is kept on, you should theoretically be able to take of the shift **** without this DIY. However if you still can't keep scrolling!</font></p></td></tr><tr><td colspan="2"><font face="Verdana"><img height="1" alt="1" src="/images/cl.gif" width="1" /></font></td></tr><tr><td><font face="Verdana"><img height="480" alt="The OEM Shift **** Attached And Normal" src="/diyimages/shiftknob02.jpg" width="320" /></font></td><td bgcolor="#dcdcdc"><h3><font face="Verdana">2.</font></h3><p><font face="Verdana">K this is the normal OEM shift **** as you SHOULD see it in your car. If you compare this pic to the previous you'll notice that the silver ring around the shift boot goes over those two notches we saw above!</font></p><p><font face="Verdana">If you couldn't stop at step 1, you should know theoretically be able to figure out how this works and be able to remove the shift boot. As always...if not continue down!</font></p></td></tr><tr><td colspan="2"><font face="Verdana"><img height="1" alt="1" src="/images/cl.gif" width="1" /></font></td></tr><tr><td><font face="Verdana"><img height="480" alt="Where To Place Your Grip On The Shift Boot" src="/diyimages/shiftknob03.jpg" width="320" /></font></td><td bgcolor="#dcdcdc"><h3><font face="Verdana">3.</font></h3><p><font face="Verdana">Place your fingers on your shift boot around the silver ring as you see in the above picture. In order to make this simple and effortless (yes you can do it with just 2 fingers people!) place your thumb on the ring overtop one of the nothces, and your index finger over the notch on the opposite side.</font></p><p><font face="Verdana">Seeing that you had to come all the way down to this step, you're going to have to go to the next page.</font></p></td></tr></tbody></table></p><table cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" border="0"><tbody><tr><td><font face="Verdana"><img height="480" alt="The OEM Shift **** Drops It's Skirt" src="/diyimages/shiftknob04.jpg" width="320" /></font></td><td bgcolor="#dcdcdc"><h3><font face="Verdana">4.</font></h3><p><font face="Verdana">Alright so here's where the shift **** drops it's skirt - so to speak - just give it a slight push with your thumb towards your index finger and it should pop off one of the notches, then swing it back over towards your thumb by pushing down with your index finger.</font></p><p><font face="Verdana">*POP* there you go...now you're all set, the silver ring should no longer be attached to the shift ****.</font></p></td></tr><tr><td colspan="2"><font face="Verdana"><img height="1" alt="1" src="/images/cl.gif" width="1" /></font></td></tr><tr><td><font face="Verdana"><img height="480" alt="UN-screwing The Shift ****" src="/diyimages/shiftknob05.jpg" width="320" /></font></td><td bgcolor="#dcdcdc"><h3><font face="Verdana">5.</font></h3><p><font face="Verdana">All you have to do now is *Screw* the shift **** with the skirt down -- err I mean...push down the skirt so it's out of your way while screwing the **** -- err I mean ... push down the shift boot so it's out of your way while you *UNSCREW* the shift ****. Just turn it counter-clock wise until it pops off.</font></p><p><font face="Verdana">There you go now you're left with just the shift post with it's skirt down waiting for a new **** to screw -- err I mean...go grab your new shift ****.</font></p></td></tr><tr><td colspan="2"><font face="Verdana"><img height="1" alt="1" src="/images/cl.gif" width="1" /></font></td></tr><tr><td><font face="Verdana"><img height="480" alt="The Exposed Shaft" src="/diyimages/shiftknob06.jpg" width="320" /></font></td><td bgcolor="#dcdcdc"><h3><font face="Verdana">6.</font></h3><p><font face="Verdana">Here's what it looks like without the shift ****. You can't just leave it with it's skirt down and topless after unscrewing it...that would be impolite.</font></p><p><font face="Verdana">Alright whip out that new **** of yours and reverse the process. Now there's really no excuse for not being able to take off the shift ****.</font></p></td></tr></tbody></table>
