Pleaseuse common sense.<SPAN class="GramE">Questions, comments, personal problems?</SPAN>Email: ineedmorecowbell@gmail.com</P><P>You will need: spec manuals as a guide, set of metric wrenches (the longerthe better) and sockets, screw drivers, torque wrench, air impact, large pipewrench, jack and stand(s) and under drive pulleys&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;</P><P>Work on a cold motor.</P><P>Block your rear wheels.</P><P>Turn the steering wheel all the way to the left to ease this procedure.</P><P>Disconnect negative battery terminal and alternator connections.</P><P>Break the driver's side front wheel lugs loose. Jack up the front driver'sside of the car and put a stand under it. Remove the wheel.<IMG width="640" height="480" id="_x0000_i1025" src="/diyimages/020.JPG" border="0"></P><P>Also remove the big black plastic piece that covers the wheel well gapbetween the inner fender and frame. This will expose the a/c and crank pulleys.This is a one piece unit that runs from one wheel well to the other. There aretwo clips in each wheel well and four across the bottom. There are also twoscrews on the under side.<IMG width="640" height="480" id="_x0000_i1026" src="/diyimages/012.JPG" border="0"></P><P>&nbsp;</P><P>Before you loosen any belt tensions or mounts, break the power steering pumppulley nut loose. Use a large screw driver or large punch as a wedge to keepthe pump from turning while you loosen the nut. Once that is loose break thethree mounting nuts loose. (Two red arrows and the other<SPAN class="GramE">is</SPAN>not seen under the pump. The top red arrow is just a tab that holds the<SPAN class="SpellE">tensioner</SPAN>in place. It is necessary to move this to get thealternator out later.) The blue arrow is the wing nut to turn to get thetension out of the belt. I used a large socket to turn the wing nut. Go aheadand loosen it all the way.</P><P><IMG width="640" height="480" id="_x0000_i1027" src="/diyimages/002.JPG" border="0"></P><P>Once you get all the power steering mounts removed just flip the pump overand balance it out of your way like this. The red arrow points to the othermounting point not visible in the previous picture.</P><P><IMG width="640" height="480" id="_x0000_i1028" src="/diyimages/004.JPG" border="0"></P><P>There is no need to remove any hoses or drain any fluid.</P><P><SPAN class="GramE">Now, on to the alternator.</SPAN>This will need to beremoved. Break all the fasteners loose. It is also necessary to remove thepower steering fluid reservoir bolt at this time. Balance that (red circle) outof the way. It needs to move to get the alternator pivot bolt (blue arrow) farenough out to remove the alternator.</P><P><IMG width="640" height="480" id="_x0000_i1029" src="/diyimages/005.JPG" border="0"></P><P>The red arrow points to the pivot bolt. There are two other bolts under thealternator. One fastens the mount to the block (no need to remove this one) andthe other is a bolt in a slotted hole used to secure the tension. These arebest reached from the bottom. Once all the fasteners are loose go ahead andremove the pivot bolt and the bolt in the slotted hole. You may have to wiggleand pry the alternator forward, up and out.</P><P><IMG width="640" height="480" id="_x0000_i1030" src="/diyimages/013.JPG" border="0"></P><P><SPAN class="GramE">Once the alternator is out put the old belt on like shownto prevent damage to the stock pulley.</SPAN>I tried without using an impactbut it didn't work.</P><P><IMG width="640" height="480" id="_x0000_i1031" src="/diyimages/008.JPG" border="0"></P><P>Here are the pulleys side by side.</P><P><IMG width="640" height="480" id="_x0000_i1032" src="/diyimages/010.JPG" border="0"></P><P>&nbsp;</P><P><IMG width="640" height="480" id="_x0000_i1033" src="/diyimages/006.JPG" border="0"></P><P>Use the impact to install the new pulley. All you have to do is grasp the pulleytightly and impact. Don't use the pipe wrench on your brand new pulleys, youmight scratch them.</P><P><IMG width="640" height="480" id="_x0000_i1034" src="/diyimages/011.JPG" border="0"></P><P>Place the alternator back in and snug<SPAN class="GramE">all the</SPAN>fasteners finger tight. Loosen the<SPAN class="SpellE">tensioner</SPAN>wing nutall the way and slide the new belt on. Tighten the belt to spec and secure allthe fasteners.</P><P>Next, place the power steering pump in its place and snug all the fasteners.Now you can put the new pulley on. Use the screw driver or punch as a wedge butpad it a bit first to prevent scratching your new pulley.</P><P><IMG width="640" height="480" id="_x0000_i1035" src="/diyimages/003.JPG" border="0"></P><P>Take all the tension out by turning the wing nut.
