One of the guys that I have worked with for awhile who has always helped me out at work and even outside of work (hooking up my alarm) told me he was selling a " 65" "Mitsubishi Big screen TV for cheap because he wanted to get rid of it because he was moving, being skeptical I asked him what was wrong with it he said nothing it was just way too big to move around so he wanted to get rid of it quickly. He said it was either a 2000 or 01' model. I asked it if it had component inputs and he said yes and even told me it was HD ready. He originally wanted $500, being very skeptical now I asked him what the hell was wrong with it, again he said nothing it was just too big. After much friendly haggling a week later I offered him $400 and he considered it and said okay. Keep in mind that I have'nt actually seen the TV yet but from his words and the words of others that went to look at it it was a nice TV. I then deciced that I didn't want to buy it because I didn't have the funds yet. So another week goes by and he asks me if I wanted to buy it still, I finally threw $350 up in the air he said absolutely no. After much haggling he agreed to $350 and I told him I would pay him and pick it up after I took a look at it in action. Well too make a long story short I went through a whole ordeal to get the TV to my place and fired it up.
There were problems:
1. The TV was no a 65", I brought out the measuring tape and it read 61" and the tape don't lie!
2. There is a weird color bar on the bottom corner that you can only notice on certain backgrounds.
3. The top of the screen sometimes goes wavy sometimes, weird.
4. The Tv obviously isn't a 2000 or 2001 model because it doesn't have component inputs like he said it did but only S-video inputs.
That is all, I didn't second guess him when I came to look at it and buy it because I thought he was an honest guy for all the times he's helped me out and the time i knew him.
Anyway should I confront him at work and let him know whats up, or should I just let it slide?
I am in no way a sucker and if this was someone I didn't know personally I would have checked everything from the begining, but since it was bought from a "friend"/co-worker I didn't second guess the facts he gave about the TV.
It's just like car shopping, check the TV out, take it for a test drive first before you actually lug it over to your house and find out it's just a piece.
Same goes for cars, look or listen for any funny things going on the TV. Lesson learned man, if you cant get your money back (either by him or by selling it to someone else) then I guess you're stuck with it.
Before you start saying it is not a 65"...go to the manufacturer's site and verify the model. Sometimes they have interesting ways of measuring and it may very well be advertised as a 65". As far as the wavy bars and such, big screens are VERY tempermental. Sometimes moving them will knock the cannons out of alignment...and you need to have a TV guy come out and adjust them. I have a couple of friends that have either given away big screens cause they didn't want to move them or sold them for a couple of hundred bucks just so they wouldn't have to deal with them. (No I was not around to jump on those deals) so I don't find it odd he was letting it go for $500. Do some research on the TV before you confront him and maybe you will find some answers without a scene. If you find that the TV is in fact NOT a 65" like he stated and that there are extensive repairs that need to be done to the TV...then I would confront him. Otherwise...dude...you got a big screen for $350. You can't even get a decent 27" for that.
yeah .. get it repaired and let it go for a grand even. Man you can make so much $$ off of it ... who cares that he ripped you off .. just brag about how you sold it for so much more and make him feel like the jackass
