I signed on with my company immediatly after getting out of the Army because I was afraid of not having a job. The contract was to do a year in Iraq, after the year was up, it'd be my call if I wanted to stay or not. Well about 3 weeks ago I signed a new contract to stay in Kuwait and work down there. Two days ago I got a call from my boss who told me that the new contract I had signed (Pay cut went into effect already) was voided and they are obligating me to my old contract and putting me back into Iraq. Last night when I finished my shift, my regional boss called and told me to pack up and I was to start work in Basrah today!
My question is this, do you think I should really quit or stick it out for another 7-8 months?(If I do, I'll have made over $120k)

Is there anything holding you back? ie. a wife, long time g/f, kids?
I would go for it I think. It's not just the $$ (which is pretty good) but you're really building up a solid background here for your future.
But like I said...if there's nothing holding you back, I would do it.
Seriously, 120K is some fat cash. I think I could deal with 7-8 months of a job I didn't like or even hated for that much money. Hell, a lot of people work a lot longer in jobs they hate just as much for a fraction of that money. I'm going to assume you're young and don't have many ties that can't be worked around (wife, gf, kids, etc) I'd stick it out.
I talked with the regional manager again last night and when I had a cooler head. Turned out that when I signed my contract, my employers had already put my name onto a team with the customers (Army) to re-man a base. Since they specifically asked for people who knew the area and where familiar with it, my name was put onto the team. By the time my new contract was sent in to regional headquarters, it was too late and they decline the new contract. I'm back to my old pay scale and I'm doing less work with good living conditions conserding where I'm at.
Veritas, I work in the communications field as a civilian for the Army. It's $120k for a years worth of work. I was down in Kuwait for almost 4 months.
As far as the "Hell Hole" comment. Yeah, it's a little risky around here, but I don't plan to be sticking my head outside of this base until I'm told I gotta go somewhere else. I plan on just going to work, going to the gym and going back to my place to sleep.
No mention of the "ties" as of yet, so I will assume there are none (wife, kids, etc...) I'd stick it out man, not only for the money, but also they (the military) obviously need you there.. Stay safe bro!
My hellhole comment was based purely on opinion and the last time i checked there is no need for me to say how i came to that conclusion.
w00t, I sounded ejumakatĒd!
anyways I dunno there seems to be a lot of planning going into these attacks and there are fewer raids to take out the terrorists due to the fact of the worries of more attacks. so, there is more time to plan, and I fear something big will happen soon.
i think that it is all based on what you want to do with your life. i am already signed up in the D.E.P. program and i am actualy looking forward to going over their to serve my country but i will miss my civic! but anyways back to the subject if you wanna go, go. if not stay here its as simple as that!
