Most of us race STS, but us posting times is useless since every course is different and we all drive at different levels. If you haven't bought the car yet, and you're looking into having something competitive, don't buy the Civic, buy a base Mini. These cars just don't cut it too well beyond the local level, and even then, its no cakewalk. Most of us run between 1 and 2.5 seconds behind what you could call the "top" drivers in the class, driving cars that probably could be considered better suited for the class rules.
I race in STS as well. After three events I am still placing towards the back of the pack, but the RSX's and new Si's arent doing any better.
If you want to be competitive AND stock I would reccommend getting a better platform like a Mini Cooper, as suggested by Boilermaker. There is a lot of great information on this site though if you decide you want to get serious about autox and making you, and your car perform better.
damn i feared the worst lol well i just wanna run locally no national events and what not just wanna race legally and safely and just be able to hang up top i know courses are different
but i guess what i meant to say is for the times that you raced ...for that course you raced what was the typical time and what was your time...
I average 2 seconds off our Local Top STS driver/Car. David Hironaka, Former CSP champ (in an 88 CRX si) and former F125 national Champ. now runs an 89 Civic Si... that still needs some work (we were about 2 seconds off the pace at the atwater pro solo with the car)....
so, Locally you can do pretty well, depending on if you have any national level drivers in your region. Nationally.... your going to want a different car.
Autocross: Because Life is more fun on three wheels......
"I know Solo only comes one minute at a time, but what an intense, non-stop, fast-forward car control exercise minute it is. Sure, the velocity is higher in road racing, but inside the car it is slow-motion in comparison. In Solo, the turns come like machine-gun rounds. "

Another guy on the boards; Chris runs in an 04 civic HX with only a front strut bar, and a 19mm rear sway bar and a set of good tires and beats me consistently by 8 seconds or so. That is a real testament to how much of a difference the driver can make, considering I have more power, and more parts.

I run mine in HS. I was 1.2 off of the STS leader in CenDiv with my car just on tires ONLY. I like the PAX that HS provides. The 7GC does well, but when the 99-00 Si get moved from GS to HS next year, I will be looking for a Mini or a MZ3s.

Life is not a straight line, it is a series of turns. How you negotiate them determines in what place you finish!--My Father
I've seen some of your posts on the scca forum, good to see somebody giving HS a go. Are you running 205's or 225's in front?
The proposed HS changes in the August fastrak are going to shake up GS and HS quite a bit. I was number crunching the idea of a base RSX as an HS car, power is good of course but it gives up pounds per tire width to the mini, doesn't have a camber advantage, and isn't as stiff as the mini so probably won't compete. The Si is heavier, same issues. But the MP3 might be good, although probably impossible to find one in stock condition. Based on my recent experience with more camber on my very underprepared STS car (comparable springs/bars/camber to current GS Celica setups) I think the 94 Celicas will give HS minis a big run for their money. Great for those who want to pick up a competitive car on the cheap, not so great for those of us who don't want to spend time locating old cars without rust and fixing all the worn out stuff. I have a friend with a mini and I'll tell you what, I'd probably buy one of the darn things if I truly believed it would be as reliable as a Honda; hers has had numerous PITA electrical issues in the first year. Hondas do spoil you...
I like the idea of the MP3 in HS....I know where one is that I can pick up reasonable that is in stock condition....Problem is that they are a little underpowered, but easy to modify to get lots of alignment possibilities.

I believe the Protege5 is already in HS, I remember seeing one at one of our local events, don't recall how he did. My hunch is that they're pretty heavy and low(er) on power than some of the other heavy HS cars.
LOL! Who am I to rag about the power being too low in a Protege when I'm pushing 20 pounds per horsepower in an overgeared Civic!!

ha ha, we are probably some of the most underpowered cars on the track
I have heard the protege5s handle really well though despite their lack of power
is the protege5 in HS as well, and how does it hold up?
It is in HS, but the car does better in STS iMHO. My brother has one with the full MazdaSpeed Suspension, Slotted rotors and CAI with Full exhaust. The car does very well. Too heavy for HS IMO!!
