Autocross: Because Life is more fun on three wheels......
"I know Solo only comes one minute at a time, but what an intense, non-stop, fast-forward car control exercise minute it is. Sure, the velocity is higher in road racing, but inside the car it is slow-motion in comparison. In Solo, the turns come like machine-gun rounds. "

get the 225... and hope the 89-91 civics cant fit them.
BTW, I've seen the 205/50-15's squeazed on to a 15X8" wheel...
Though we will lose a little bit of gearing by going to the 225/50-15's vs the 205/50-15, but I think the greater cornering traction will more then make up for it.

i gotta say, i am extremely disappointed that they did away with the 215/45/16s. this was a perfect size for our cars, for those who run 16" wheels. i have tried a number of tires on the track, and the azenis seem to be the best... i dont really expect ill run anything else until it is proven better to me.
however, 205/40/16s are useless for our cars. with a big front brake kit, i have limited options now. i know of a 15" wheel that will fit over my brakes, so i might be going 225/50/15s in the future... still... new wheels werent exactly on my list of things to buy. disappointing...

Run the Kumho MX, just as sticky as the Azenis, but with out the overheating problem... only they have softer sidewalls, so you'll need to run different PSI's. and if you change tires, your going to have to re-tune your setup... Alignments, Damper settings ECT...

i know of people who run/have run kumho mxs and were not very impressed. i havent run them, so it might be worth a shot though.

just out of curiousity, what size mxs do you run?
225/50-16, 205/55-16, 205/50-15 were all i found on tirerack. thats just as bad sizing as the azenis.
My understanding of them is that they dont grip quite as well when they are cold, but get much stikier as they heat up.. Optumum temp is some where aroung 160 Deg, where as the Falkens start to get greasy at about that temp.
Check out the STS results of this years Solo 2 National Finals, 4 of the top 10 cars were on Kumho MX's the rest were on Falkens. So they have to be pretty good. (and most of these were on the same car, only 2 werent 89 Si's. one 03 Celica, and one 1990 Civic Si). http://ww2.scca.com/soloresults.php?ID=68

If you can get the MXs hot, I mean HOT, like 150+ they'll stick like glue. The problem is in an autocross where you get off the track and they cool off, they don't work very well unless you've got tire warmers. On the race track they were quite good after just a lap or 2 and they held their own quite well over the whole session. I'm running 205/50/15.
Honestly I dont think you can get a 225/50/15 on a 4th gen. A lot of CRX people were pissed because they don't fit, I think its the same dimensions... thing is, they can get a 225/45/15 R compound on... so if must either barely not fit, or they don't like the gearing. 225/50/15 DOES fit the EP3, so it should fit the EM/ES as well. Only problem is if falken makes a 225 into a 245... then we could have problems. I know Greg at HondaWerx had issues with 225/45/17s rubbing on the insides on his RSX, but I don't remember why... might have been too low.
225/45/17 are not only wider (duh) but i belive that they are taller than stock, i have wear marks on my frame from my 215/45/17. i wil almost definetly be buying a set of 615s for next year, i'm thinkin 225/50/15 to go with the new race wheels i will be buying.
