Those of you who have realized already that Snell releases a new revision of their standards every time a year ends with a 5 or 0, will also notice that it's up for renewal next year. Now, there's a little more to this. The standard comes out in the middle of the year prior, and the helmet manufacturers have some time to redesign and get their helmets submitted for testing. Next year, no helmet will be rated as Snell 2005 until October 1, 2005 until then, helmets will still bear SA2000 or M2000 ratings (and be good until sometime in 2010). On October 1, all the 1995 rated helmets will effectively expire (with the exception of the regions who opt to honor the last 3 revisions, most just do 2). Just a little heads up notice for those of you helmet shopping, Snell 2005 does not start on January 1.

For SCCA Autocross, the Snell 95's will be legal untill 2010, A Snell Rated M2000 will be legal untill 2015. (assuming of course your local region only recoginizes the last 2 snell ratings.)
Autocross: Because Life is more fun on three wheels......
"I know Solo only comes one minute at a time, but what an intense, non-stop, fast-forward car control exercise minute it is. Sure, the velocity is higher in road racing, but inside the car it is slow-motion in comparison. In Solo, the turns come like machine-gun rounds. "
