Damn this thing screwed up, anyway heres the original post...

OK, I just passed 50k on the odometer, so I think its time for a tune up. Now my dealership is always asking me to do the dumb ass $400 tuneups, & they look at me like im on crack when I tell them that ill do it myself. I know alot of the stuff they tell you is BS, but because im racing the car now I probably need to start taking some of these tune ups serious.

So myquestion is, which ones should I be needing, This week or next Im going to start doing all the easy stuff, spark plugs etc., but what about the other stuff likevalve adjustments, injector servicing, changing tranny/brake fluid, belt adjustments, suspension bushings?? Which ones would be important to check out so I dont blow something due to the extra stress of racing, & which ones are BS.

Thanks guys

at 35k, I swapped the tranny fluid, put in DOT4 and changed the antifreeze. I will do that again at 70k. I think you can handle another 10k and do it at 60k, but if you really want to do stuff, change/flush the radiator, change the tranny fluid (you can't flush a manual), swap up to DOT 4, check your front suspension bushings for wearing and cracks (rears should be ok), and change your oil (maybe switch to synthetic). the belts shouldn't need to be touched unless they are making noise or you having problems. Service those at recommended times. You can put in a bottle of fuel injector cleaner. I would check the sparks. They are going to look fried but are probably still good. Maybe get a new set of platinums or irdiums. Valve adjustments, I have no idea, but I would have a professional do that.

I took mine to a local speed shop, brought him all my fluids and he changed oil, brakes and tranny for $80.

Have you checked your brakes lately?

I have found that my car used to suffer brake fade after a short amount of real hard braking, so I installed slotted crossdrilled rotors and that has helped.

New upgraded spark plugs are probably a good idea. I agree with robbclark1, leave the belts alone.

You shouldn't have to change or touch anything out of the ordinary. You just need to do normal things more often as far as I'm concerned.
Oil, Coolant, Tranny Fluid, and Brake fluid. Just keep on it.
Do oil as you see fit. Coolant every 30-40, Tranny every 15-20 (its so cheap who cares) and bleed/change the brake fluid once a year. That ought to keep you going.
Check the spark plugs and like Rob said, keep an eye on the suspension bushings.... chances are you will need to change them at some point.
Look at the brake pads and if you're still on stock rotors look at them real closely for cracks. I found a few hairline ones when I did mine last weekend, probably from overheating them. Other than that, keep the car clean, dirt likes to cause problems, so don't let it.

See how well they stop after all the drill holes crack.
