I think that 40-45 is too much for those personally. Seems that they would likely slip alot with that much pressure given that when they heat the air will want to expand even farther.
When I was runnig street tires for autocross (also 205/40-17), I ran the fronts at 45-48 and the rears at 35-38 depending on the course. A friend of mine running on Much Higher profile tires then mine ran his at 50 Front and 40-45 rear.

That's fuggin nutts! I can't imagine the tire holding a hard corner at that pressure. My Exalto's will hold up to 52 but I only run them at normal pressure right now.

Thats assuming you're running for hours on the highway and the tire really heats up. You can probably pump them up to 55 or so and have no problem. Its not like the bead will blow off. (Tire Rack uses between 80 and 100 PSI in over a short interval to seat it, then backs it off)
Used to run my 215/45 yokos at about 43/37, now i'm running my 205/50/15 Kumhos at 39/36. Once my alignment gets redone, I may be able to get it down lower in the front. Put in as much as you need to keep it rolling over. If you're running that many events, get off 17" rims unless you like buying lots of expensive tires.

Ya, I run a 16" right now. Don't want to go any bigger - I was looking for a mix of form and function when I got the wheels.
Sunday I was running my street tires(kumho supra 712s 205/55/15) at 40/38, I was slipping all over the place. Then I backed it down to like 36/34 & was sticking much better. Next event i'll be experimenting with my Azenis
I have heard of people running more than 50psi to keep the sidewalls stiff and it worked for them, however, they were in rear drive cars. I tried 43f and 34r this past weekend at the Ky Speedway on a "blacktop surface" and the grip was good. Rotation was just as I liked it. But then again, I am still running on stock shocks and springs!
Thanks to everyone. Goes to show that there is no such thing as a perfect formula for all cars/tires. Just hafta test and tune as I go.
macrossranma: I did go and sign up with HADA. Ill be going to all their events, as well as all the events at the Hershey centre.
I agree with all that say 17" are too big. They do slow me down, but this is my daily driver and I like the way 17"er look. What can I say, im a lord of the bling!

Mine's a DD, so is Zzyzx's, and I think he'll agree with me, the smartest move was to spend a couple hundred bucks on a 2nd set of race only rims and sticky rubber. We both roll 17s on the street. I know it sounds nuts now if you're just getting started, but wait and see in a few months, you may change your mind.
I ran with my 17 for half a season.... then I broke down an bought some 15s and wraped them in some sticky rubber. Not only did it save my street rubber (autocross eats tires) but it made me much faster on course.
