its a Little 89 Civic Si in Full STS trim. Drove it all last weekend....... What a car!!!
The guy who owns it asked me to co-drive it with him for National and Pro solo events so I have to learn a new car, but Damn.. that thing can corner!
First impressions of my 01 EX vs the 89 SI.
1. Less happens when you press the go pedal (the 89 has less power)
2. More happens when you turn the steering wheel (the 89 can out corner my 01 )
3. ABS is slowing me down(or should I say isn't), I felt the Si with out ABS can stop quicker, or at least I could Threashold break better then with My EX (the ABS seems to Kick in too soon, especialy with sticky tires).
Should be a fun season, By the second day I was only 1 second off his times, and Hes been autocrossing for 8 Years and has Won at the nationals before. Both with a CSP preped CRX and an F125 Kart. Hopefully I'll beable to beat him by seasons end, with his own car.
I'll post more picks as they become availible, I'm pretty sure I had the thing on 3 wheels on more then a few occations.

"I know Solo only comes one minute at a time, but what an intense, non-stop, fast-forward car control exercise minute it is. Sure, the velocity is higher in road racing, but inside the car it is slow-motion in comparison. In Solo, the turns come like machine-gun rounds. "

how competitive is STS at the national level? it isn't at all at our regional level. Everyone drives a 13b powered bugeyed sprite(seriously 4 guys), a z06, or a damned miata.

Nationaly STS is Very compeditive and VERY popular....
Last years National Finals in Topeka....
53 cars... of the top 10, 7 were 5th gen civics (Most Si). Top 5... All 5th gen civics and all ran with in 1 second of the leader, the top 3 were seperated by just .09 seconds.... (2nd place was .067 seconds slower then 1st. 3rd was just .087 seconds slower)
When I went down to the nationals in Phoenix Last january, there were 17 STS cars 9 were 5th gen SI Civics.
Locally here in Las vegas, we have about 6 Regular STS cars, and 60 Total for the year.

Awsome car and you are lucky to get to race it. There are two 89 si hatchs in STS class here in DFW and one of the guys is a 2-time national champion. Those cars rule STS class!

If I may ask, whats the full parts list?
Ya we'd be running 13s if there was a good tire availible......
Parts list, as I remember it....
1. Koni Sport Yellows, Front and rear
2. no name brand adjustible coil overs (we just wanted the collars)
3. 400 LB/in springs Front and rear, soon to be upgraded to 500 F/R
4. Front upper tie bar, rear upper tie bar, Rear lower tie bar
5. OBX header, CAI (Ingen or somebody ) Custom Crush bent Cat back exaust. (From his CRX days, apparently he found that the cars engine responded better to Crush bent exaust rather then Mandrel bent.)
6. Enkei Wheels 15X7 (unknown Version or weight) wraped in Azenis 205/50-15
7. Comptech 24mm adjustible rear anti roll bar
Soon to get, New steering wheel, Ligher seats, Set of Keizer wheels in 15X7.5
alignment.... Not sure on camber, just what we got when we lowered it. (somewhere between -1.5 and -2.5 Deg) Toe, 0 toe on the nose, 1/8th inch toe in on the back.

I'll still drive the 7th gen on occation, but I need to do some things to it, like get a proper alignment and get some Konis. But I'm in the middle of buying a house so I cant really justify spending the $$$
