Re: DIY: TYC projector retrofit 2009

yeah one washer between the projector halves where the three bolts are mounted. im gonna need to open the lights again anyway to seal around the mounting hardware so the bolts and stuff dont jiggle loose. i just need to make sure everything looks normal on the car first.

Re: DIY: TYC projector retrofit 2009

did you mess with rotating the lenses at all? my drivers side has a hot spot right in the middle of the beam where the passenger side does not. i had the lenses off at one point to do a pic comparison between the TSX and the purple Valeos (pics on hidplanet) and they've been that way ever since. i'm wondering if the lens has a rotation position that i messed up when i put them back together. you're seem even across both beams. my driver side is brighter in the center than the passenger, but dimmer on the sides than the passenger. still brighter than halogens though!

Re: DIY: TYC projector retrofit 2009

yeah if you notice in my pics, the driver side has big dark spots in the beam whereas the pass side is nice and smooth the whole way across. i have come across alot of different looking tsx beams and most of us think its just due to the projector design not being accurate enough. rotating the lens will not change the beam at all. the only time i saw a difference with lens rotation is with my really old pair of tyc h1 projectors which im sure had crappy lenses to begin with. the tsx projectors are just really weird and ive never seen two that looked the same. i wish i had another passenger side lol. the driver looks messed with that square pattern in the middle. do you have any pics of yours?

Re: DIY: TYC projector retrofit 2009

wow what a day. after toiling all afternoon with the wiring and relays, i finally got everything hooked in. had to cut both side support beams so the ignitor actually fits. they are clearing the corner now but there is no way to change any bulbs without removing the light. not a huge deal tho. if everything looks good tonight (rotation), i should be able to open them one more time and seal all the bolts with metal weld so they dont rattle loose. my other concern is the turn signal which is nowhere near bright enough. it almost looks like a park light. so thats a project for another day, prolly using hi power leds instead of superflux. what a waste of time and leds tho. the park lights look just fine i think. the good news is i can turn my adjustment wingnuts with my pinkey when the lights are installed. so at least i dont have to keep taking them off for aiming. and i just got the philips premium h1 bulbs in the mail put in for the hi beam.

Re: DIY: TYC projector retrofit 2009

i just drove tonight, and where my hot spot is, is close to the car. the foreground, not out at the cutoff. it's pretty annoying. i don't have any pics. i keep meaning to take some, but haven't gotten around to it.

Re: DIY: TYC projector retrofit 2009

okay im really disappointed after going for a drive. i have that hotspot too on the driver side due to the square beam shape in the pic. but thats not really a problem as it sortof blands together. the led signals got really bright at 14v and def look like a normal signal compared to the park light. but im just really unhappy with how the lights look on my car. doesnt flow well at all with my oem looking ride. and the tsx are not even that much brighter than stock, i barely felt any improvement. all this tedious work and $$ and im prolly gonna end up selling these. on top of that, the rotation is off slightly on both of em even tho i spent hours aligning them off the car. so i need to fix that even tho thats not really gonna matter much. i dont even know what i was thinking doing this. compared to my last retro these look like candles. looks like its back to stock lights. ill be lucky to get back what i paid for these which is around 500. you think anyone would buy just the lights for 550 shipped? im gonna keep the bulbs and ballasts for future just in case.. grrr. this sucks! im so mad this didnt work at all like i hoped.

Re: DIY: TYC projector retrofit 2009

i think i just hate hids? lol. it just doesnt look right at night, maybe my eyes just reject it. my first valeo retro was nice and bling but i really couldnt see any better than stock. this tsx retro is similar, a bit brighter but not much different. my e46 50w retro was tons of light, too much in fact that i could not drive on dark roads more than 15 mins before i got a headache. i give up, not meant to be. its just consuming my life for no reason. i think the stock halogens are plenty bright so idk why im even bothering with hids lol.

just stick with one retro and call it quits, if your going to do any more i would suggest you do it to sell them. Even then i dont think you would get much business in this site. My current retro at time feel like its not bright enough then at times im like wow..oh well what can you do

Re: DIY: TYC projector retrofit 2009

i know for mine, i wasn't happy until i got the vertical adjustment right. at first, i had to take the headlights off to adjust them. after trying 4 times, it still wasn't right. i was either blinding people from the beams too high, or i was blind because the beams were too low and light seemed less than halogens. it wasn't until i drilled some holes in the back of the housings to where i could get a screwdriver in to adjust them that i was happy. for me, the difference between blind, happy, and blinding others was the difference of 1/4th of a screw turn. 1/8th turn either way, and it sucked.

I Have the E46 stuffed (and i mean stuffed) into the TYC housing using 50 watt ebay kit and ebay D2S Bulbs, and its bright, just a bitch to aim. Side by Side with a BMW you can tell the difference, Only for my cut off is a lil tilted....but cool with me i guess...(and 6000K) Also i just went outside and noticed that my projectors are pointed in towards one another....but what ever i mean "retrofit" is another way of saying.."pull something out your ass to make it work, cause its not made for that"...so its almost never going to be perfect.
Ill need to take some pics so i can sho

Re: DIY: TYC projector retrofit 2009

very true. e46 50w was really nice and bright, but it was too much for me and i was blinding people on a daily basis every time i went up a hill or bump. im actually really happy with the stock halogens (with philips xp bulbs) so im just gonna stay with those. its plenty bright and wide.
