I thought we need a 7440 socket and bulb instead of 7443. 'cause we already have a 7443 socket w/ double filament bulb. and i think the bulb we suppose to put in should be a single filament since there is only 1 watt rating under it.

and, i just got a pair of 04 tail lights for my 02 civic coupe today. so i want some come clarification please. ^_^

is Socket number 33304-S30-003 socket 7440 or 7443?
socket 7440 on the 04 tail is located in the lower outside corner. is that the one you were doing conversion on?

thanks a lot.
and props for posting up the DIY!

1. Yes, we need 7443 double filament bulb for the new socket (T20). I tried 7440 and it won't light up. However, the single filament 3156 (old turning light bulb on 02 tail) lighted up....that's why I though i need 7440....

2. Yes, its the one on the lower outside on 04 tail...and the one with the biggest socket on our 02.

hehehe, thanx for the replies! Tomorrow, I'll get my taillight from UPS....and then, I'll post my full 04 tail conversion DIY here... =)

It's all here, pics/part #'s/etc:

http://www.7thgencivic.com/forums/sh...9&page=2&pp=15

The 7440 works fine..I have them on mine...that's cool about that power adapter. My little wire thingy I made works fine though, had no probs in the last few months. I'll stick with it. Cheaper too! (LOL! only by a few bucks...). Hey, there's more than one way to skin a cat...

nitsuj1604 is an unknown quantity at this point
those adaptaplug power leads would not work for dual filament sockets would it? it would need to have 3 prongs wouldnt it? power for each filament then a ground right?

nope, it wouldn't work for dual filament sockets. but why do you need it anyways since you already have one in the car.
then again you can always "ghetto rig it" if you need one or buy a new wiring harness.

I just went back and reread the original post...I have one question...why is a dual-filament bulb involved in this conversion? The only socket that needs to be modified is the turn signal bulb, which is a single filament. The other bulb (park/stop) is a dual-filament, but plugs right in without mods...

Yes, you can USE the 7443, but you will only be using one of the filaments. The 7440 is the same bulb, but only a single filament...

man, seriously...im also confused about this one...

yes, on the backside of the tailllight, it's written that we're suppose to use 7440 for the T20 socket.....

now, indeed, we do only need to modify the signal bulb........strangely, i bought 7440 first, tried infront of Advance Auto Part with the adapter and the socket to my existing turning light wiring harness (the black one) and it didn't work......

then, i tried to plug the Adaptaplug into my existing 02 turning light bulb (single filament 3156), and it was working fine...

well, considering that I must make this situation work out, i went back to advance and asked them to exchange it with 7443......guess what, it's working fine now......however, the turning light harness never light up the second filament.....

what do you think? it's kinda strange though.....however, im very sure that i tried 7440 several times, even with different bulbs....and still, it wasn't working....

oh! FYI, in my turning light socket, there are 4 "legs" that seems to fit the 7443 bulbs....which also have 4 "legs".....

hehehhe, nice!

i plugged it that way.....up until you can see the "+" sign inside the socket.....it's really tight that way.....the plug actually "marked" by the socket....two fangs (like vampire) marks....LOL.

hm....it's really nice to use your DIY too..

however, the cheaper price i got.....$1.69 for a pack of Y shaped connector and another $1.69 for the "butt" connector....ah, i forgot the name.....however, u gotta buy the whole pack, right?

cables are cheap.....and yes, your DIY is definitely save more money....

hmmm.....that is weird about your 7440's not working....In the end, I guess it doens't really matter cuz ya got it to work with the 7443's and they probably weren't too much different in price. Only thing I can think of is that the bulbs you were tryin were bad. When you talk about the "legs", do you mean the metal things that actually "clamp" to the bottom of the bulb? If so, that is what actually makes contact with the small metal wire that see at the base of the bulb and it's made with four, that way you can put the bulb in any way and it'll still work. Here is a VERY crude drawing of the bulb base...please excuse my artwork...LOL! I MAY have the leads on the 7443 marked wrong, though, but you can get an idea of what is going on. For each bulb I made a "side" view and a "top" view. I also made an electrical diagram of the bulb for ya...all this info and I didn't even charge you!

hmmmmmmmmmm

this is very interesting...

either the bulb's dead.......unlikely though...brand new...in set....tried both...and not working...

or....the turning light harness on my 02 doesn't want to light up 7440...

however, it's barely the same circuitry as 7443.....and, it costs exactly the same...$5.83...
so, that time, the girl just scanned both bulbs....and all set.....nice hm? hehe.

anyway, this is quite interesting...i really wanna try another 7440......see whether it lights up or not..

i got it for $130 shipped from a fellow member here...

however, i got some "legal-biatch" issue with ups...such that the side grey plastic was cracked...

im gonna biatch around with them to get the $200 insurance included on the shipping cost..
