I'd really love to change the dash gauges on my 2001 sedan, ones that look like the 2004 model with a black and red face, but are blue at night. I hate the white day faced glow gauges that are on sale on eBay.
Any good links welcome.

Un the black and red face is for the coupe (lights up red). The sedan has the blue rings. Why not get regular indiglos? They look like stock during the day (02 stock) and light up blue.
Oh and what you suggest above can't be done. The clusters aren't compatible.
You can not put an 03 cluster into an 01. I assume you want to buy indiglos? You said that you don't like the white face, though. So I don't know what to tell you.
Although, some people here have taken out the cluster and changed the backlight of the gauges to a different color.

Um, up there I said I have an 02. The person who started this said he wanted to convert his 01 gauges into 03-04. I just posted mine cause I thought you wanted to see it.
Since you have an '01 too, you can do what I did. Although the gauges won't be black, but gray and lights up teal vs. the blue you wanted. Still looks nice though...
1) Get gauge rings off eBay for the day look.
2) Get blue condoms from partsexpress.com and place over gauge bulbs for the night look (for more details look at my DIY).

NorrinRadd, your DIY is so much work that I don't think anyone will be trying it. They look really good. I tried to pull apart the face part and stick some celophane in there but ended up messing it all up. It made the light green instead of blue (sedan). Indiglos are the easiest for a nice EL blue color.
gearbox, you're right my DIY is indeed a lot of work, not hard, but long (around 4 hours work). Yup, celophane will be green but the condoms will be a little more blue (teal). My DIY is cheaper than buying indiglos, but definitely a lot more work to get things as bright as possible.
Originally posted by IronFist Dude, did you really use condoms? I searched for "condoms" at partsexpress.com and it said 0 results. That's kinda weird.
Also, why don't your needles light up?
Sorry, they're actually called lamp covers, but everyone here calls 'em condoms. As far as the needles, they do light up. Admittedly at about 50% of normal brightness (digicam not very good, but needles still bright enough to see at night, just not as bright as stock), since needles require a certain (amber) light frequency to be bright (I used blue lamp covers, thus changing the light frequency and dimming things a bit).
I bet on the sedan your DIY would be easy. Just put covers on and that's it. The lights are white in the back, and they shine straight through the cluster. I opened em up and ruined the sticker face, so now a bunch of numbers look cracked at night. I can't do it unless I get a new cluster.
