DO NOT use acetone!!!!!!!! It will take off everything and you'll be left with a clear piece of plastic. I tried it at the bottom and was like oh crap! There's nothing painted on top--it's all at the bottom. I just unplugged the light since it doesn't light up enough to match anyway.

what do u mean by take off everything? Like the Letters too? P R D D1 D2 ?

Cause if it does take everything off, wouldnt i be able to go out and get stickers or somethin to replace them? (just an idea) When u mean EVERYTHING off, will it be clear? So, I will be able to make it blue? just without the letters? lol

You will have a strip of clear plastic that you can see through. I started rubbing the bottom and it took off every layer up there until the background and number disappeared. Just unplug it. You already have a place on the gauges that shows which gear you're in. The way it is, the numbers will be much dimmer than the other dash lights.

The actual gauges have the paint behind them that acetone will remove. The numbers are on the front, though, so it only takes the paint off in the back. I did it, but messed up the faces with the paint. My gauges look like crap now and I'm waiting for my ebay cluster to come in so I can fix it. But that's another story.

so i will be left with a clear plastic piece... Hmmm

Why would it be dimmer though? It would still be the color of the LED that i put in wouldnt it?

< even the black comes off?

Im not trying to get the guages white using the acetone... im just interested in the stick thingy

It would still be bright with leds, but not as bright as the HVAC controls. I did mine with regular lights and the shifter looked too dim when compared to all the rest.

I'm gonna try and get the gauge lights done as well when I get the new cluster. Hopefully it works.

Here's a pic for you. I tried the acetone on the 1 and got really pissed until I realized there's no 1 on our cars.

I'm going to do neon in the dash, and I'll try the neon tube idea. I'm going to put plexi under my TV with Alpine routed into it an light it up via neon or LED from the sides. I'll post pic when it happens as I'm busy on the kickpanel process.
